Hi just looking for opinions please have finished iati accounting technician course and am considering goin on to do chartered accountants. Just wondering what the chances are of getting a training contract? And am I exempt from all cap 1? Any advice or opinions gratefully accepted! Thanks

Not 100% sure, but think you're exempt from cap 1 for the CAI exams. You'll need to apply (although too late for big 4 milk rounds this year) to the firms for places, but I wouldn't limit yourself to the big four or ACA for that matter.

Consider ACCA (check out website to see what exemptions you'd get with your IATI qual) or CIMA if you wish to remain within chartered. Both of which do not require having a contract.

Also, check out the CAI website which list the practices that are looking for new hires.

    Good luck

Thanks for the reply! Being honest I kind of want a training contract because from what I gather theyll help with the fees. With cima and acca do you need a certain amount of experience to qualify? Im not working in the area at the moment so ive no experience.

Could I approach firms that are members of chartered accountants randomly or do I have to wait for them to advertise? Thanks

You'll need experience with all of accounting bodies to become a member.

Nothing stopping you contacting practices at random, but time consuming and costly.

If I were you I'd contact CAI and ask for the list of firms currently recruiting. I looked at the website and can't find a link, but there used to be one.

    Email CAI for more info
