    Hey all.
Just wondering if anybody knows anything about a very loud aircraft that was flying northbound approx 050 degrees over Mullingar at 11:53?

I was inside watching tv and i could hear the engines roaring for a good few minutes which is very unusual because 1, i had the tv on and it wasnt exactly quiet, and 2, i normally cant hear any aircraft when im inside my house with all windows and doors closed.

Judging by the noise, which last for over 2 minutes, (again twice as normal as a crusing jet would be audible for when passing overhead) i can only guess it was something the size of a B2, An225, etc.

Obviously there are no airports close to me and eidw traffic is never a factor around here even if rw 10 was in use.
I had a quick look on a few online live radar sites but nothing was shown.
Ive heard the pc9's flying around before and im pretty certain it wasnt them either.

So if anyone has a clue as to what it was, please enlighten me! :)

A B2!? Now that would be an interesting sight over Mullingar!

Maybe it was the Sligo-Hueston running a bit late...?!

So from what you heard, you heard the worlds largest airplane fly by your house.

You sure it wasn't the surround sound on your tv ?;)

Havent a clue but interestingly enough yesterday USAF B1 Bombers were around the South Coast yesterday heading westbound they used the callsign "RAMA" and were mid air refuelled by "QUID" KC135's Flight, one callsign heard was "QUID93" and "RAMA21"

RAMA also worked Shanwick 6622 primary and secondary 5616.

One of the PC-9's has been flying over Athlone for the past 20 minutes or so. In and out of town and circling overhead.

Possibly something Russian out of Shannon? There have been a number of Russian AF Il-76s through there in recent days in connection with President Medvedev's travels to the USA and Canada, and the direction of flight would tally with what you report. Did it have a bright red flashing light on the belly but no other strobe-type lights?

I think EchoIndia is on the money .....

Russian Air Force IL-76TD RA-76638 departed Shannon late last night and was picked up on SBS in the Dublin area around 2345L.
It was routing direct to position NEVRI (near Dundalk) so that would have brought it right over the midlands. :)

Air Corps fly past to open TriAthlone on Friday, at some time.

Yes that must have been it alright.I did see the red light but no strobe or anti-collision lights.
I havent heard anything as loud apart from at airshows so it was quite unusual!
    Thanks for the replies! :)
