HELP! Tried to update iPhone 3g to 4.0 and most of my history is gone. ie. messages

    How do I get them back?
    are they gone forever?

    why cant the updates be more straightforward and less risky?

    any help appreciated GREATLY

    My messages are gone but things like contacts and photos are there.

    My menu was back to its original layout too.

    I had them arranged in my own way.


    Some of my features were restored but others werents.

    Is it possible they weren't backed up?

    By the sounds of it you didn't back up, but synced again after updating which explains why your contact, calendars, photos etc are back, but your text messages are gone for good I think. In iTunes you can right click on your iPhone in the left hand column, and it may allow you to restore from back up.

    I'm missing my calender dates. I backed up before the update and synced and they're missing! Anyone got any ideas?
