Has the World Cup (Soccer), i.e. Jules Rimet Trophy ever visited Ireland ?
If so, when, who, etc and how was that arranged ?
    Anybody know ? TIA.

I have been informed that a replica of the Jules Rimet trophy was brought to Ireland for some sort of visit around 1995/6. Can anyone confirm or add to this ?

Dont know....but it would be a replica anyway. The real thing is kept locked up most of the time. Would you believe the winning team can only keep the trophy for 4 weeks before it is returned to FIFA. That is a bit harsh. They are worried that as the price of gold has soared it would be robbed. It was previously stolen in Brazil and they think melted.

It's very hard to believe that the JR Trophy being heaved around in Spain this last few days is the real Trophy though. I'm not inclined to believe it.
Can't see how insurers would ever agree to that. Not on, imo.
What's doing the rounds in the streets of Madrid and elsewhere in Spain must be a replice (aka: a fake .)

Is anyone in a position to tell us that the bullet proof, grenade proof glass display case in the FIFA Hqrs is now empty ?

Would I be right in saying that the present World Cup is not called the Jules Rimet cup,as far as I know It's called the FIFA Cup and that the name was changed when the old Jules Rimet cup was given to Brazil when they won it 3 times.
