    Hi Everyone,

Have just completed one year psychology with OU and have decided to apply as a mature student to TCD to study Occupational Therapy. Looking for any info you can give - number of hours per week etc.

As I will be applying next February, I want to keep studying with the OU and better my chances of getting in, any thoughts on what would be good subjects to study? Thanx, Rubix:)

hey ya rubix. i was talking to a few other people in here before about studying ot in trinners, if you search for OT in the trinity board you'll find em. i'm just going into final year ot and i am also a mature student. its a great course and an even better job. going back to uni was one of the best decisions i ever made. if you want any info in particular i'll be glad to help.

oh and as for subjects to study look at anything related to disability, child development or psychology (developmental psych), elderly care, anatomy, physiology they'll love all that stuff. but to be honest your best prep for the course and for applying is to get yourself out to as many ot departments as pos and volunteer your services, i guarantee they'll be happy to help and its the one thing the guys in the department want to see. they really just weant to be sure youve done your homework and you know what ot is

Thats gr8 Griffin. Thanks for the info. Its good to hear that another maturey has survived and enjoyed the OT course. I have all these questions in my head of being too old, not smart enough - you know, the usual stuff. But I do think its for me - just want to convince the 'powers that be' that they should let me in. Is there a particular person in the department I could go and talk too? You could PM me on that. Thanks again and I'll go check out the OT 'corner of the universe'. Rubix :D

the head of the school is a lady called clodagh nolan. but to be honest they get a lot of people calling who don't know much about what ot is so i'd strongly advise you to go check out the ot departments and do some volunteering (if you let me know where you are and could tell you places that you could try) before you call the college. you could call dominique plant whos the executive officer on 01 896 3210 she'll pass you onto coldagh or give you some info. feel free to say you were speaking to me, (Adam Griffin) and you were very interested in studying ot. name dropping a student that they know will let em know you have looked into it more. best of luck and don't worry for a sec about being smart enough, as a mature you don't have to even think about what you got in the leaving they actually like having more matures in OT cause we have "life experience" don't ya know :D
