    Hi all,
    I am an existing sky plus customer,
    I was thinking about getting a HD box without the subscription,
    A lot of people have said this can be done as it would improve my sky,
    However when I rang sky, the girl told me that there is no benefit at all to my picture, just to the epg, if I do this,
    I she correct?
    I imagined that the hdmi feed alone would make it an improvement on my existing scart connection?
    Thanks and sorry if this has been asked tons of times
    Lazy

    HD+ box without subscription:-

    * better EPG
    * more space for recording
    * access to BBC HD and ITV HD (if you have a HD TV and HDMI cable)
    * ITV HD isn't on the Irish EPG so you can't record
    * not sure: if you don't have Sky HD sub, is BBC HD on the Irish EPG? If it is not you can't record, like ITV HD.
    * from what I have seen in other posts, most of the Sky anytime is HD so if you don't have Sky HD sub you won't have access to them

    I think that's all.

    thats about it, bbchd is on ch 143 and is recordable, also has 5.1 sound on some programs.
    (without a hd sub)

    luxe HD is the other hd channel.

    I dont think there is any great (noticeable) improvement in pic quallity
    between hdmi and scart on the sd channels.

    Depending on your TV and TV settings, some people have reported a decrease in picture quality of the SD channels on a Sky+ HD box.

    I'm sorting out a sky installation for someone this week, what sort of HD box are we likely to get? The customer is getting a HD box without any HD subscription as it simply came free as standard. I'm concerned I'll get some sort of amstrad muck. Are we likely to get a better brand of box like a panasonic or a pace if we ask the sky installer nicely?!:D

    The only boxes been installed now are the Aamstrad or the Samsung 500GB box (250GB- Anytime and 250GB- recording space)

    Would the installer likely give me a samsung box if I asked him for one instead of an Amstrad?

    Does the installer have the freedom to choose the box? From what I remember when my Sky was getting installed, the boxes of my decoders had my name & address printed on them already.
