Ford Mondeo engine light on - cost for diagnosis?

I've a engine management light on (not flashing) on a 03 Mondeo for the last week. She seems to be running fine though.

I'm going to bring it to a garage to hook it up to the diagnostic machine and see what the errors are. Does anyone know how much I would expect to pay to get it looked at? I don't want to get anything fixed, just a diagnosis.

Depends where you go. Main dealer prob €50+. A smaller guy might cut you a deal, or try see is there anyone around with a code reader that'd help you out.

My mechanic ran the diags on the spot, in my case exhaust lamda probe.
He ordered part and then fit it ( few minutes to fit).Total cost for his work a very reasonable €30!

Rang the local garage there and yer man said €30 for a diagnosis.

    Not bad to be honest.

My own mechanic (down the country) said that usually if the car is running fine that the lamda sensor is the issue. You could run for 6 months with that not working.

Got mine fixed asap because I'd be concerned you would miss another warning due to the light being already on.

My mechanic's opinion was that if the light was on and there was something badly wrong with the car that you'd know about it from the performance.

How much did the part set you back?

Well my procrastinating saved me 30 bucks yesterday. Got into the car to head home and the light was gone off! :)

More than likely it could be the lamda sensor so.

If your light went off maybe you justhave bad connection?

I'm definitely no expert on this so take anything I say as amateur.
When Mine went I tested the connections - clean, tight connection etc.
When light didn't go off after that tested with multimeter - confirmed that 1 sensor was gone ( there are 3 on my exhaust). You may be lucky.

On some engines loose petrol or oil filling cap can cause the engine management light to come on.

Bought a cable on ebay to plug into my laptop, cost 10€ so I can now read the codes on cars.
Handy to have yourself, and if your ever thinking of buying a car, you can stick it in just to see if there is any fault codes showing up.
    Argos sell them as well
