There is a thread over on digitalspy right now about this subject. It seems there are a few of us who are trying to get more back on our screens esp BBC2 and a revival of the old school double-bill horror films on a weekend late night.

Anyone else a fan of the old Hammer/Amicus type films?

Some of the Hammer movies are still immensely enjoyable while some have aged terribly.Personally Id like to see more of them being shown.

I grew up watching those double bills. Not all of them were hammer films, some really old classics. I would love to see them return but as said probably not so scary anymore.

Scary is a side issue, they are really about nostagia and "spooky fun" rather than seeing innards ripped out by sadists.

Ah the memories, back when movies on TV could still be worth staying up for.

the double bill horror's were great i'd love to see them back on tv again :D

Oh definitely "Yay" ... just recommended a Lee/Cushing vampire film on the other thread :)

"Scary" is subjective and personally I find creepy, ghost story type films infinitely more scary than blood and guts type films and most of the films on the list of historic double bills are absolute classics! Although I'm sure if they ever did bring back the horror double-bill they'd update the content. :(

Seems like a no-brainer to me ... what with BBC having a gazillion channels now with nothing but crap on them or simply dead air.

I miss the days where I could come in plastered on a Friday night, probably needing a good nights sleep only to turn on the tv to find a Hammer Horror film on. :pac: Definitely yay.

I think tv is pretty redundant these days if you ask me. What I mean is that if I want to watch a TV series, there's no way I'm going to sit down every Monday night to wait for a new episode or whatever. Once the series is done I get that series. Same goes for movies. Rarely is there something on tv that I really want to see. I have a massive backlog of films waiting to be watched. And once again, if I really want to see something I'll just get it instead and watch it in my own good time.

I've gone way off topic here but anyways.

A yay down to mere comedic value on mine own part, the real low quality special effects fuel my comedic needs quite nicely

I would give my eye teeth to see some do a Friday Fright Night style horror movie slot! Dodgy and all as some of those old B movie horrors were, theyre still better than 90% of the rubbish that passes thru the cinema at the moment. I would love to see them back on tv.

Horror movies died a death (Excuse the pun) many years ago (possibly decades noe!) after the halloween special of "Ghostwatch" with Michael Parkinson. The whole weekend had alot of horror movies on but there was a 18 year old who committed suicide after watching ghostwatch and as a result BBC had to annouce it was all fake.

It was all fake. How could anything with Sarah Greene be otherwise?

I think the old Universal Horror films are even better. Im thinking of Frankensteins Wife, Dr Jeykyll & Mr Hyde (1930s), The Old Dark House etc. Not even are these films regarded as great spooky classics but classics in their own right.

Val Lewton films are worth checking out as well, full of dark almost sensual atmosphere.

One night, when I was on my own in the house, I ended up watching Nosferatu at 3am.

I have never been more scared in my own house. Can't remember what channel it was on.

I was terrified but enjoyed it nonetheless!

Nay to watching movies on telly in general - unless they're ones that won't interrupt it with ad breaks.
