    Hi,

Edit: Apols if this is the wrong Forum

I am being called into a meeting with my two bosses on Tuesday. They wish to pull me up on my punctuality.

Adimitedly i was late an hour one day due to car trouble. It couldnt be helped, but i understand being a bit miffed about that.

However, i was 3 minutes late 4 days later due to traffic (bloody pile up on the M50). This issue is also being raised. I dont know what way to react when they do bring this up. Are they being bit petty? in my eyes they are.

I have no track record of lateness (the hour late was my second time being late by more than 5 minutes in a 2 year period, and i am rarely late by more than 5 minutes, maybe once or twice a month!!) .

Should they have to prove i am consistantly late before bringing up any diciplinary actions etc.

Any help/views/thoughts would be greatly recieved.

    Thanks

Well it seems a little harsh, but you do say you are late (even if only by 5 minutes) 1-2 a month on average. Over a year that is about 30 times (if you count the other things likely to crop up by chance) being late, maybe this is their problem. Perhaps there is more to it. While say 9am might be your start time officially, a lot of employers expect you to be in and ready to go by 9am, not just arriving and settling in.

Sounds like a verbal warning is coming your way or more likely a written warning. Still it seems a bit harsh unless they have constantly being saying it to you. Good luck, lets us know how you fare!

I think i worded my original post a bit wrong, i meant when i am late those one or two times a month, you are talking maybe 1-2 minutes late (normally traffic/parking related) all the rest of the time i am sitting ready to go at my desk sometimes up to 20 minutes before my shift starts.

I think its a bit unfair to start pulling me on "Punctuality" cos i was an hour late, and then 3 minutes late a few days later as if it is a pattern.

Edit: Also, its never been mentioned to me in any way shape or form in my 2 years there.

I think if you keep your cool, explain how punctual you are normally and that this week was the exception, then you should be fine. If you lose the head, then you won't be!

i get what your saying. Im just wondering, from a legal point of view, have they grounds to issue me a verbal/written warning based on these 2 instances?? Also, there are no members of HR present. should i request one?
