lads just wondering is there anyone in the dublin area that could help me out, im collecting some poults at the end of the week, i dont have any crates for the trip. i would probably need two. . .

if anyone was kind enough to lend me them i can assure you that i will return them and will steam clean them before i do. (have my own steam cleaner).

thanks lads, hope someone can help me out.
    cheers.

i cant help with crates but if you can get a few heavy cardboard boxes and just cut a few holes in them and fold down the tops they would the the job

When we collect them in Slane he puts them in sacks......I'd ring the supplier....he may have something to transport them in.

B & Q sell plastic crates that may be of use if you could make a lid for them....or as a previous poster said cardboard will also be perfect.

would that be a mail sack?

im thinking im going to have to make some because when it comes to releasing them im going to have to have something to transport them in aswell and lets face it if i take the time and build them right ill have them for seasons to come. . .

Keep your eye out for one like this. I have one like that and another that is just top entry. When releasing the birds from the top entry one they fly out like crazy. With the side entry if your quiet and still they walk out gently.

    thanks lads for the suggestions.

    side door a must then??

Yip trust me on that! If you want to let your birds out without them flying off (if they are not wing clipped) then side door it is.

does a side door do away with having to try putting them to sleep before releasing them, i was told that some lads do this when releasing adult birds to keep them in that area if there was to be shoot a day or two later. . . not sure of how true that is.

Put your crate tight into some cover, open the side door and step away quietly from the crate. In five or so minutes your birds will all be out and happily picking through the under growth. I've done it countless times with poults or adults and always curse the other crate with just a top door, every year as the birds come out on the wing.
