Is it possible to get a tv signal level meter that you can plug into your tv outlet on the wall and get a db level reading ? I would not mind if it had a ber/snr reading also

Or do you need to get a spectrum analyzer ?

Working on a job at the moment and this could come in very handy for me , it's just a standard rf network ran through the building from a digital headend .

I would like to keep in or around the 300-500 budget as most of the SA's that I have looked at are costing a lot more

    Cheers for any help

If it's for regular use installing, then you are better with a model of Meter that has spectrum analyser. Will show up various faults.

For Eb/No, BER or SNR on Digital systems you need a meter for the system
DAB, DTT, Cable and Satellite are different.

Also UK now uses DVB-t and DVB-t2. Satellite uses DVB-s and DVB-s2. Cable currently here only uses DVB-c, but DVB-c2 does exist.

There is even a DAB+ verison of DAB, not sure if same tuner head works, but the other digital signals can't be added by firmware if missing. They need dedicated HW.

There's a crowd in Firhouse calle Burns Electronics. They supply all this kind of gear and the guy in there is very helpful (particularly when you don't know what you are talking about - like me)
I don't have a number for them but I am sure you can find them in the telephone directory.

    It's very basic model.

    No satellite.

No DVB-t2 (the new DTT for HD)

    No Cable TV digital.

    I prefer Promax

Its the one site that I am working on all the time , just upgrading , maintaining and new installs onto the TV network,

For example , last week I had a room that 6 TV's needed to go into, what I need the unit for is to measure the level coming into the room to see what level of amp I will require , if one is needed after putting a splitter/tap onto the main feed so that the TV's will have the optimum reception.

The Promax looks a lovely unit , but could set me back €3-4K from what I am looking at online.

I decided to take the plunge and went for the Promax Explorer 2 yesterday , lovely piece of kit and can justify the price as Im finding I need for an all round meter lately .

I was going to post yesterday to see if I should go with the the 2 or 2+, but bar the extra memory and the CAM slot on the plus everything else seems the same.

One of these arrived in work last week, though has yet to be fully tested.

It'll be handier for using at the mast, due to being compact and light compared to our Promax lump.

It does have spectrum analyser etc. so it'll be grand for the basic stuff, though it's not in the same league as the Promax.
