Proper facial

Hey boardies, i thought you could help me.

I got a facial today and was just wondering if there was any beauticians out there who could tell me what the proper steps are in a facial??

The lady i got it off today didn't make me feel the "tranquility" i thought i would get, and kept walking in and out of the room like a yoyo so made me feel really uncomfortable.

Also, apparently the proper treatment for blackheads is just to squeeze them out after steaming the face?? This part i found the worst as it was VERY painful.. And she didn't ask if it was hurting me or not, and her nails dug in.

Neadless to say i won't be going again but i was wondering if this is a usual facial treatment?

F***, i totally got ripped off then, i wouldn't mind but i paid 40e for the pleasure.....

I actually felt worse coming out than i did before. I only wanted to relax for an hour, i'm stressed to the hilt and it wasn't relaxing at all :(

Facials vary...I wouldn't necessarily say you were ripped off just because you didn't get what you expected.
I personally rather the type of facial that does a lot of steaming/blackhead extraction and then a deep cleanse, regardless of how painful the extraction part is, I feel like its really cleaning my skin.
The one time I went to a different beautician (I had a voucher), it was more or less just a bit of cleansing in a room with the lights dimmed, it wasn't what I personally expected or indeed want from a facial.

In future, I would advise you to ask the beautician what kind of facial they do, and choose one that you think you will most enjoy.

Thing is i did ask for a relaxing facial!!!!

The blackhead extraction bit though, is there any other way to do it?? It was painful!!

The blackhead extraction may well have been uncomfortable anyway but its worth it (IMHO) to get rid of them. However, the rest of the facial should have been super relaxing. Generally I fall asleep when I'm having the head massage part they are so relaxing.
I had one earlier this year in a new place and it was awful. Well the facial itself was great and my skin felt fabulous afterward but the room was cold and I was freezing, the girl was rude, loud stamping in and out of the room, turned the lights on full when it was over and told me it was finished and pulled the tiny towel that was covering me off me too! I complained to the manager about her manner but not the facial itself and she was very apologetic and offered the treatment for free. I didn't accept as that wasn't the reason I was complaining and my face looked and felt great. I just thought the behaviour of the girl was shockingly bad and she needed to be picked up on it.
A few days later I got a voucher in the post from the manager for another facial whenever I wanted. I really appreciated that.

It really is all a bit hit and miss...every beautician seems to have a different way of doing things...

OP...try a few diff places, ask around and you will find what you want...

I've never found anywhere that does extractions! Can someone recommend a place in Dublin? I have so many blackheads from sunblock at the moment, they're horrible.

Maybe you would prefer a facial massage OP? My boyfriend loves them (I learnt how to do them in transition year in school) and if you're not acne prone it's really moisturising too. It really helps my headaches to get massaged around the eyebrows and cheekbones.

    I'm on to you.:)

OP, some salons do aromatherapy facials using things like rose oil, and they're really relaxing.

Anywhere that does the Dermalogica facials do extractions as part of the facial. Its uncomfrotable rather than sore (but thats my opinion others may find it painful) but well worth it to clear them. The Nail and Beauty Bars do Dermalogica, the Buff Day Spa, actually loads of places.

Facial vary and to be honest for €40 I don't think that you were ripped off. In my experience facial in spas are more relaxing but ones done in beauticians leave your skin in better condition. I know I normally pay €79 for a facial in a spa (I don't go that often because of the price:))

Having had acne for 12 years, no real doctor or dermatologist has ever recommended a facial for it!

Other than one dermatologist (who suspiciously had La Roche Posay posters and pamphlets everywhere...), they all strongly recommended against expensive brands too.

Try www.acne.org for good advice and see a GP if it's bad! Mine has cleared up now except for blackheads and I wouldn't mind getting them periodically removed. Where did you go? €40 sounds good
