Another High Court settlement for IE

Iarnrod Eireann and its HR director John Keenan have settled their High Court battle over his dismissal.

You may remember Keenan made certain allegations about Dick Fearn's handling of fraud at the company in legal papers, which appeared to indicate that Fearn may have misled the Oireachtas Transport Committee.

He received an undisclosed settlement and continues to be in the employ of IE. Whatever deal was involved is confidential although I suspect that money changed hands (as it usually does in employment cases involving IE). As a result, we will never see the allegations either proved or disproved in public.

Yes, another great own goal by CIE. How often have we seen disputes with former CIE chairman and senior executives settled out of court. Now we will probably never get to the bottom of the matter. I wonder how this will affect Keenan's position as a director of the Fishguard & Rosslare Railways & Harbour Company?

This only came to my attention recently and it makes for interesting reading.
Wonder why IE settled ? I do know that there was some suspicion of a bit of shady dealing in the company. A pint drinker in my circle said ages ago that if there was a serious investigation, carried out by properly qualified investigators, that the public would be aghast at what would be revealed.
