    Hey all,

I'm looking to fit parking sensors to a 06 B6 Passat Estate and I'm looking to get my hands on rear bumper and tailgate assembly diagrams.

I've tried the main dealer and no joy . There doesn't appear to be a Haynes manual for the B6 yet. I found some instructions on vwaudiforum.co.uk but it's for a saloon. Any ideas where I can get them?

Also I'm looking to draw power from the reverse light does anyone know how will this affect the bulb fault system? Will it just disable it for that bulb as current will always be drawn?

I know very little about what I'm about to say, but I've organised enough Passat Tow Bars to know that you are supposed to have a wiring multiplex for the power socket.

Does the Saloon differ from the Estate by that much? The Tow Bar and reverse sensors go on the bumper and I don't think that piece is any different between the saloon and variant.

Thanks ROR but it's an after market sensor rather than a retro fit - This one http://www.parkingdynamics.co.uk/Universal-Sensors/Parking-Dynamics-PD1/Parking-Dynamics-PD1-Parking-Sensor .

My main concern with the estate is routing the power from the reverse light to the cars interior proably not that much different from a saloon just longer. I'm looking for the tailgate assembly to try route the wiring neatly!

I have vw parts system but the diagrams wouldnt be of any real use to be honest.
What are you trying to do? Fit aftermarket parking sensors to rear bumper, take power from reversing light circuit & then fit a beeper or some other device within the cabin.

Not sure where you are based, but if (like me) you aren't 100% sure of a job, I'd get a pro to do it.

http://www.jdmproducts.com/index.php?cpage=product/browse_category.php&area=shop&category_id=262 booked for fitting on the internet will only cost slightly more than the kit you are looking at. It may be slightly more than that to have them sprayed to match the bumper colour, but only €20 or so.

I use those guys all the time for phone kits and have had sensors done by them before - it's hard to distinguish them from OEM fitment.

Would the kit you linked work with a Tow Bar, or will it pick up the Tow Bar as an obsticle and buzz like mad?

    That's it exactly!

I already have the kit for a few months and am sick of looking at it I just want to get it fitted. I've installed Nokia car kits into nearly every car I've owned so am familiar enough with wiring and removing small bits of the interior though my preferance was to take power from the rear of the 12v socket and splice the mute to the radio.

I really just want to be sure I don't do anything unreverseable - pardon the pun :D - when I'm removing the bumper and connecting the power!

I don't think it'll care about a tow bar as it's fixed the kit only picks up objects getting closer to the car and cuts out if you stop moving - Not ideal but something I discovered after I bought it its on the kits FAQ somewhere.

Not really of great use Id say but might help ya find a hidden screw if ya are struggling with the bumper

That looks great thanks mickdw :D

I'm hoping to tackle it this weekend if I can get time. The kit recommends I seal the antenna with chassis paint is this something thats easily got? Any idea of what sort of money were talking?

Is this just rust proofing? If so, there would be many paints in the hardware store that would suit Id say. I might be wrong though

Thanks for the help guys got it fitted over the weekend. Bit of an ordeal though took about 4 hours to do it by myself and I never got the bumper off completely!

I needed to remove the rear lights to get too some screws holding the bumper in place. If you’re not aware most of the bulbs on a B6 passat aren’t owner replaceable the manual states that you should go to an authorized VW agent. Why ?? Because to remove the rear lights you must remove the trim inside the boot not too bad but when you realize to do this properly you must start on the back door sill and remove all the way back!! I didn’t look at the front for fear the engine may have to come out!

Thankfully I didn’t need to disassemble the tail gate I found the reverse lamp power supply behind the trim in the boot. I couldn’t get the bumper completely off but enough to squeeze my hands in to fit the antenna. Does anyone know am I right in thinking there are replaceable plastic rivets that must be snapped and replaced to remove the bumper completely? Sorry I’ve no pics I just wanted to get the car back together.

As for the kit I’d give it a 5 out of 10 range doesn’t seem great about .5 of a meter and false alarms on a loose surface (gravel) but when you get to know it, it seems fine.
