I updated my 3gs on Tuesday and since then I have had nothing but hassle with my phone. Some problems are, Phone vibrates randomly for no reason this has happened a few times. The text message icon shows, say a number 2 suggesting I have 2 new texts but when I go in and check there are no new texts? This is the same with e-mail 4 new mails go in and there are none? Tonight I couldnt text had to ring O2 to reset my text? My imoji keyboard has disappeared and it was there after update. Tried to play it on my car stereo through usb wouldn't play had to reset the phone now that works. My e-mail is coming through to the phone even though I have fetch off and went into advanced settings and changed it to manual.
Anyone else having issues like these?

    I don't have a new text!

Got email pushed even though I hadn't it set. When I type a message here on my phone (like now) the post reply button ends up under the text.

Also I'm concerned about the little spinning disk beside the E or 3G indicator in the bar at the top. Since iOS4 update it never stops spinning why I am on safari. Used to stop when page loaded. Am I receiving data while this is spinning??

Had that vibrating problem the other night but only happened once. The phone also kept overheating in my Car Charger and said that the charger was not suitable for it, despite the fact it was working before the upgrade. But the biggest problem has been the battery.

I charged my 3GS all night, unplugged it at 9am, used safari to browse through 4 or 5 pages of a website and it used 10% of the battery! In 20 minutes! Wifi is turned off and have no other apps open Not good enough and as much as I love the new OS, I’m genuinely thinking about rolling back to the previous version ( if possible).

It really needs to give you an option to close an app when you hit the home button, or choose what apps you want to multitask with. Rather than keep all your recent apps in the multitask bar.

For all the people having trouble with battery, do a soft reset and if doesn't sort then restore as a new phone.
I had a terrible battery after update and soft reset sorted it and now my battery is better than ever, for some people restore as a new phone sorted.

So if I backup my phone and restore it I'll get all my apps etc back?

Soft Reset iPhone. Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

It's confusing, some refer it as hard and some as soft reset.

So as a dedicated back-er upper of my iphone, I was given the gift of the new OS 4 as an update and I did, I also chose to backup my phone as it gave me the option to. All went well for 3 days, lovin the new software but I had to power off the phone for a bit and when I powered it back up, no vo**fone no nothing, no service !

Called Vo**fone and explained and they kindly said yep its an issue - on power up of ur phone the new software blocks out seeing any networks out there !!!! He said a**le released the os4 way too soon so you will have to call them. So they gave me a number and I got one guy who was not very good explaining stuff, anyway I hadnt my laptop beside me so I called back later with my laptop in hand and got a lovely person on the fone who talked me through the restore process. We did a backup of all contacts etc....then did a restore, then I renamed the fone which brought me back my service but when I went to open the old phone profile it was gone so I lost ALL my contact numbers !!! all apps gone, paid apps - everything cleaned out !! Luckily God invented sim card back up gadgets and I have one of them ( buy one !! They've saved my skin twice and only cost a few quid )

So here I am now with a fone I cant turn off, thanks A**le ! Dont update ur software if u dont have to be patient till they fix it, they better !!!

Here's a new one. I'm in the car with music playing I receive a call through the car kit I answer it. Car stereo mutes as normal but phone keeps playing music. Person on the other end can clearly hear kings of Leon. Had to hang up go into iPod, stop the music and ring them back. I have this phone a year and I've never had so many problems until I updated on Tuesday.

Regarding the problem with car stereos....
I too fall into this catagory and it pi**es me off so much!! I can still plug the aux cable in and play it that way but it's annoying that it doesn't charge and you have to hold the iphone to scroll through music.

I have been reading many online forums and it appears to be the case that it's not a fault of apple because they dont claim that all updates will work with current or previous hardware even if it bears the "made for iphone logo", because at the time it did.

Unless your radio manufacturers are willing to release an update for the stereo there is only one option for in radio controlability (if thats even a word lol). BUy a new stereo...... Which sucks!!!!!

My phone seems to have lost half a brain since upgrading. Everything is so sluggish: apps opening, browsing in Safari and even typing. Keys lag behind while I type. I can continue to type and it gets a burst of energy and blurts out all the letters in one go. I'm going to try downgrading later...

I haven't updated my phone in ages. No intention of it either. I love my jailbroken 3.1.2. Not a problem in the world

I'm on 3.1.3 and not planning to update. I used to be early adopter but tired of getting in the neck every time without a fail.

Success, it works again, all i did was simply plug the iphone into the stereo, the same "read" logo kept flashing so i held the home button and the lock button simultaneously and it done a "soft reset" and since then it works perfectly

I'm on the verge of putting my iPhone in the bin it's that bad on os4. If I do a soft reset will I have to jailbreak again? Is there a way to change my baseband back to what it was on 3.2.1

Yes I've done this a few times and it will play for one or two songs and then I get loud blasts of static through the speakers and the head unit says ipod error!!!

That's mad, I've got the 3GS 16GB with IOS4 and not a problem in the world.
I also reboot it every few days, clears out any sluggishness or lag. It is an operating system after all...same way as your pc would get sluggish after being on for a few weeks straight!

What does this soft reset do?? Does it wipe any details off the phone or what??

no, it just forces the phone to reboot, hold power and home together, the power off thing will come up, keep holding, it'll restart, this is a forced soft reset, harmless, more of a placebo effect i think, didnt do much for me when i was on ios4

Cheers, I'll try it now, nothing wrong with my phone just can't see it doing any harm!

Upgraded to iOS 4.0.1 before the weekend (from the GM build). The Battery usage / life has apparrently really improved. With the GM Build you could just watch the battery indicator sliding south whenever you did anything on the phone. Now you get a solid amount of time from the phone, much improved.
