I think theres a limitation to its HD decoding too... only mpeg2 HD not h264 HD formats or something like that

Haha yeah I said that :) check my post again...only SD decoding (though you're right, it decodes MPEG-2 HD but I've never seen an MPEG-2 HD file.)

There are countless Blu-ray movies encoded in MPEG-2.

The first ones were but I believe they updated it to a better codec? Anyways why would you transfer an MPEG2 Blu file straight to a HD when you could just play it on your player?

yeah sorry :)... good price but still might be better putting the money you'd spend on this towards a WD player

H.264/MPEG-4 AVC and VC-1 are the most commonly used video codecs on Blu-ray, but there are still movies being released on Blu-ray in MPEG-2, e.g. The Descent (US).

As to your question, I would hazard a guess that people who have ripped copies of Blu-ray movies in MPEG-2 might wish to use such a player.
