    hey all,

ive bought a 2000 model opel corsa and it keeps over heating when sitting in traffic, any thoughts as too why?

brought it to the garage, and he said i need to buy a :

    timing chain
    rails
    sump gasket
    rocket cover
    oil filter

he said he'd change it and order it for 700e

what's all those got to do with overheating and is he ripping me off?

OP its very hard to know what it is without having a look but the only advice i would give is get a second opinion the above seems excessive(an oil filter is about 15 to 20 euro ffs for one of these).

By the way when did you buy the car the first line of your post seems to mean it was recent if so was it bought off a dealer or a private sale?

i bought it about a month ago, priivate sale,
she sold it to me for 200e so i new there was going to be stuff wrong with it, she said there was an oil leak ( there wasnt) which is why she was selling it, when i got it and looked it over there was a leak in the water pipe, it was emptying the water resevoir, so i put in rad-weld.

puttin in RW it seems to have worked water is at a steady level now, but the car overheats when sitting in traffic, BUT when in traffic at a slope, the gauge starts dropping from 100oC to 90 (lowest mark on gauge)

    Overheating you say?

Water pump, radiator or thermostat is what I'd be looking for.

With the timing chains they never have to be changed because they don't wear down....
