Yes, it is like that in RTÉ. It is alot easier to get a job there with contacts, as it is in most workplaces, only in a such a public organisation it becomes very obvious to all the people that are literally watching it.

I'm tired of people not using proper grammar.

I don't know why it is so important to me, but it is.

yea the realized the problem with working for a media outlet run like a social club is that chances are talent has nothing to do with it, i have a lot more respect for people like vincent browne!

I'm glad to see him get it. Hopefully the Liveline will be moved to 2fm as well, and we can get decent current affairs during the day as well as early morning.

They're such hodge podge stations, they really need to seperate them properly and put all the idiot shows onto 2fm.

However, his slot in the morning after morning Ireland doesnt really fit there, it is much too lighthearted after all the heavy going news discussions. They are probably planning to put something more "serious" in there.

Please dont give Joe Duffy any ideas?

We dont need his offspring waffling on the radio too.

You're right. It is public service after all and not supposed to be for the purpose of people having careers getting promoted all the time. Is it in the publics interest to see the same face and hear the same voice over and over again in different shows- maybe it is. I don't mind, except why not more women- except Marian Finucane and Marion (?) from Prime Time women don't seem to get promoted as much or having more and more different shows.

ah he works more than 11 hours a week,it's like the way people think radio hosts work for 2 hours a day

Isn't rté state-run, I thought it was partly founed by tax anyway, so it is already lumped in with the state. As long as they play the angulus (sp?) every day at 12 and 6 on radio and tv I suppose they are also lumped in with the church.

That's because it is an abbreviation of Irish words and R is pronounced like that in Irish. Fyi, but maybe you already knew.

mm from an evolutionary point of view maybe me you come from a tribe which held grammar was highly important and a miss use resulted in death!

when you think about it, what an insult to people that have been abused by and/or left the church. and they are forced to pay tax for it..

Very true and some have asked from it to be removed, the whole eating out of the churchs hand is a another thing rte do, when your tied in with state and church you dont want to step on any toes!

There's a sizable contingent in this country who would watch/listen to RTE exclusively, even if all their programmes were hosted by Barney the dinosaur; viewer/listenership figures cannot be put down to the quality of the presenters.
And nothing justifies their preposterous wage packets.

Interesting point, the one about not wanting to step on any toes. They have started to step a little bit on the toes of the church though, in a way, at the same time keeping up the same old dogma expressions such as the angulus. Strange. Maybe it is on the way out.

very true and funny! i think though once the new generation takes over in this country they will have to actually search for talent that isnt directly related to someone currently working for them.

Nothing to do with the point I was making.

I think Tubridy is a pretty good presenter - definitely better than Gerry Ryan was on his show, or Pat Kenny was on the Late Late.

Having said that, he is vastly over-paid & it would have done no harm at all to find someone "new" to do the show and to leave him on Radio 1.
