New Irons advice

Hey folks- looking at spending circa €500 on a new set of irons. I may, however, consider 2nd hand if the price and club is right. Basically, my main concern is that i do not want a high launching club. I naturally hit every club high and thus would prefer something that will launch lower from the clubface. My handicap is 9.

Even though slightly over budget- i like the look of the new taylormade r9 tp irons.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    Hi,
Best bit of advice is go some where that has a good selection and get custom fitted for the clubs.

Is custom fitting not very expensive though?

I bought a set of Calloway Diablo forged irons last week from McGuirks in Kinsealy. They were €539 but were on sale at €399, which is incredible value. They also do fitting there and you can try out different clubs on the range. These irons are aimed at the better player, so I would definately give them a try.

PS. Club fitting in Kinsealy is €30

+1 on the custom fitting. A lot of places will knock the price of the fit off the cost of the clubs if you buy from them.

Off 9 handicap there are loads of clubs worth looking at. Mizuno MP52, MP58, MX300, MX200, Titleist AP2, CB, etc etc.
In my own opinion I'd say get as much forgiveness as you can bear to look at, if you know what I mean. No point in making it hard.

The Titleist/Cobra fitting centre in Carton House is worth a visit - they have the Trackman out there and its impressive, there's no hiding place, or I've heard Fore Golf in Naas are good if you want to try different brands.

Thanks for the advice fellas- will take it all into consideration. Going to try a few different places around dublin on saturday and see how i get on. I took a shot using the titlesit ap2 and i have to say they felt sweet- but prob outside my budget.
    Cheers again
