I was at the range today, practicing after a series of lessons, and admittedly spraying it about a bit, which can happen when I am adjusting my swing. The feller in the next bay looked over the devision and told me I wasn't keeping my head still. I said thanks, but I was actually working on something and expected to get worse before I got better. While taking a break, I took a quick glance over at him and it was like watching Christy Brown on LSD FFS, topping, slicing and actually missing the ball on ocassion!!

Maybe he was just being friendly.

I had a guy do this to me in Leopardstown range before...except he didnt leave it at that...kept coming back for advice and then giving it also...didnt really bother me at the time as I ignore advice from 99% of people, just felt it was weird.

Everyones a coach in golf though!

Nah, he was a know it all kind of guy. I just get annoyed when people force their pet theories on me when they haven't a clue themselves

I think every range has one of those know it alls :) The lad in Stepaside is the one that gets me if I head up during the winter.
They walk over and stand behind you for a while and then pass comment - usually one of the old wives theories about golf that do more harm than good !

Best bet is to smile and nod and forget everything they tell you.

And then we have to read about it...This is standard practice in golf, alongside the dull on course chat. You should try and adopt an approach that doesn't get you annoyed.

As for the dull on course chat, I find that asking them their favourite pussy cat doll brings out their best, even in the grumpiest of awl lads.

It bloody well happenned again last Wednesday. Was on the grass section, hitting 3 wood off the deck, when this guy moves in and tells me that I need 'more lateral hip movement'. I smiled and got talking to him and indeed he was a nice guy, and a fairly handy golfer as well. What pissed me off was that he reached over and picked up my brand new r9 460 driver and proceeded to hit a few drives with it, as well as my 3 wood and new 6 iron. No harm done obviously, but I would never dream of doing this.

    Maybe it's just me!!

I think thats way over the line, did you say anything to him?

Yea, I asked what the driver was like as I hadn't hit it yet. The thing was, he was a really nice guy, and there was no malice in him at all so Ididn't wat to offend him.

You mean the guy got to hit your driver before you did ? I dont think it comes down to offending anybody but purely manners. Say he had roofed it and left a sh.itty scuff mark on it then what ? Who is offended then ? Man speak up for yourself, simply say you can hit it no problem but not before me and bend it you buy it !! No malice in that either ye know !! I would never dream of doing that to a mate let alone a stranger

I was slightly in front of him when he did it and would've said something if I'd seen him, or if he's skied it.

Wow, I would really not like people to be grabbing my clubs and just going for it. If he'd have asked, maybe.

Exactly. I wouldn't have been rude, but I would have asked him would he mind not touching my clubs.

Go over to his bay, take his putter and lamp the fcuk out of a teed up ball. Then tell him the swing weight on it is off and he should get a new one. Tell him to look for "titleist" putters in the Golden pages ... it's near "Therapist" which he could also make a quick call to for a rush course in social skills. l
