irish foreign aid

We give millions in foreign aid to so called poor countries around the world. The majority of these countries and run by corrupt governments or dictators. By helping the poor of these countries we are in effect propping up their governments. If we gave nothing to the hungry of these countries they would rise up and in the end overthrow their masters. Admittedly many would die in the process. As we all know the wealth of these countries is used to buy arms from the West's wealthy arms suppliers. By rising up the UN will have to get involved and eventually the regime will change. So why the hell are we giving cash to these countries.
I don't want to get politically correct replies from do-gooders, wimps, homosexuals, transgender freaks, Green Party activists or the poor who are living under corrupt regimes.

I believe we should instead spend the money on bicycles for the gay community, sustainable energy for those who idnentify as transgender, as for the poor in corrupt countries, we should instruct them in proper recycling techniques, so that they may save the planet without relying on money from The Man.

one of the main reasons we give money to the developing world is to stop starving people from dying. It is not a political contribution but a moral one. Majority of projects in certain countries go directly to the people needed. Ireland is well esteemed internationally on the effectiveness of its developmental projects. Most countries in the bottom are broke and ...sure.. if a govt minister lives in an ex-colonial palace and goes to work in a fancy car...who cares? do you think they should live in a shack and walk barefoot to work?

What's the weather like where you are? It's drizzling here, but I'd say you're nice & sheltered under that bridge.

I'd be more worried if the aid is undercutting and eliminating local produce

Usually bluewolf if supplies can be sourced locally they are bought locally, This is the Irish way of foreign aid not the American way.

Overseas aid is dead money..wasted to appease the moral conscience of Mighty Whitey here in the west.
The only people that benefit form it are dictators, warlords, drug producers and the already rich.
    Its a con.

I've been dying for a steak all day, haven't got any though.

Nothing like a lovely big sirloin steak with some pepper sauce and a few chips.

    *drools*
    Frustrated now.

Also, OP is worse than Hitler.

Eliminating hunger is only one of the goals of Irish aid.

Achieving universal primary education is another, although after reading the opening post we obviously haven't sorted that out ourselves yet.

What on God's green earth does being a homosexual, transgender freak have to do with being in favor of aid, ****head? Completely separate issue. Seriously I'm one of these freaks you describe and I am one hundred percent in favor of pulling all aid from foreign countries. It achieves nothing. Never has, never will.

He killed himself after he took it because he felt so guilty for taking the photo before helping the kid.

People gave him slack for not helping the kid wasn't it?

Would you be in favour of returning the money charities in Ireland have received from the Elton John Foundation to help people with HIV? It achieves nothing, according to you.
