UPC - Outdoor Cabling

    Morning all,

So had UPC scheduled to install their TV service in the house this morning. Contractors came out at 9 on the button and had a wander around the outside of the house, the back etc... and said that they couldn't install the service today and would have to go back and speak to UPC.

I think they said there was no cabling going into the house and that they might have to but some connection outside onto eircom wires or something?

Anyone have an experience of this? Would this normally mean they can't install the service (full stop)? If they do decide to start messing around installing cables on the road, would the customer have to pay for this?

I had checked their website beforehand to ensure that the address was within their service area and it had come up fine. I'm in a small housing estate in North County Dublin.

Usually there's cable running along the front of your house (underneath the fascia or elsewhere) with an easily accessible tap where they can run a connection to a TV point in your house. I guess this isn't the case in your situation, and they have to run cables from the pavement or somewhere.

Isn't there a fixed fee for installation though?
