I was just wondering what you guys thought of applying for work through a jobs website i.e loadzajobs.ie or jobs.ie or whatever?

I have applied for tons of jobs this way and have never really heard anything back from the companies who I applied to. Now I know that they might of not thought I was suitable for the position or whatever and thats fine but Im kind of thinking maybe they are not getting through to the actually company at all?

Should I be getting an email to confirm my application?

Or would I be better going the old fasionhed way and send a cover letter and cv in by post to the company directly?

And also has anybody had any success with applying for jobs advertised on the above mentioned sites?

Anyone have any information an advice?

    Thanks...

You should be getting a confirmation email, well I have been receiving them.

    Hey,
Dont take it personally, I am nearly 24 months out of work. I frequently dont receive an email reply. I have even had both telephone interviews for a multinational IT and a face to face interview for a american financial company and not their respective HR people have not informed me. Even when I have emailed and asked for an update.
I even had a second interview last year, waited two months then emailed the HR person for an update to be told that they were not recruiting.

Its tough but lets keep on going, I know that we are better than that treatment.

If possible i take the email address of the website and email the company directly but failing that ive applied through jobs.ie recently and got some rejection emails. At least they're getting my cv tho!!:p

Try the Fás website if you're still looking for work.

You have the option of searching under 'Today's jobs' only also so you know you'll be in the first wave of applicants.

If you are still hearing nothing back it may be time to have someone go over your CV to make sure you're making the most of yourself on it.

Another option is say less than 24 hours after you email your cv and application, ring up if it's an agency and ask them had they had the chance to consider your CV, that you are very keen on this position, and they will mostly likely say they will look it over if they haven't already, and plain and simple- if your CV is good enough you'll have a good chance at getting the job.

Yea I check Fas website several times a day.

I got my cv done in one of those job club places so I presume its alrite? But maybe I could get somebody else to look over it now that you mention it, can you recommend anywhere?

Thanks for the other advice, much appreciated!

    Hi Op

I got a job through Irishjobs.ie so they do work and as you know it is tough out there. I also since learned that when I went for the job I got, over 400 other people went for it and I am really seeing how many e-mails bounce around out there that no one has the proper time for anything anymore. I would say just keep trying, I did for twelve months, but if you are hearing nothing from any job you have gone for there may be a technical problem.
