I don't think they're using scourges any more. Not saying it wouldn't hurt like a bastard, but it wouldn't kill you I think.

they're laws may be insane in most cases but at least the sentences would inspire you not to do it again. could do with a bit of that over here :D

I really don't see how you could justify punishing someone for a party that sounds tame at worst.they really seem to be punishing people for mingling rather than being noisy or boisterous.

What do they use? Can't find it on google

Barbaric either way, she'll surely be scarred if she isn't killed
Though given the amount of "sentenced to 200-1000 lashes" mentions, I suppose they keep them alive somehow

Probably just "normal" whips. There used to be a whipping video on rotten or somewhere like that. Pretty horrific stuff, I think it was fifty lashes.

The fourth woman, a minor, was sentenced to 80 lashes but was not jailed.

If she was a minor she wasn't a woman, she was a girl.

So they gave a child 80 lashes.

What virtuous people the Saudi's are. I wonder if they see the irony of giving a child 80 lashes to uphold the moral fibre of society.

Lets be real. Its Saudi Arabia - a country so full of its fair share hypocrisy and inequalities that they are living in the dark ages in regards to progressive thinking.
Till they kop themselves on and the American supported corrupt royal government there is overthrown, I will never return there.

I think the last line in the report is quite funny.
What happened ? Did the cops go in when the music stopped and their party finnished as well.

Talk about being fúcking backward and medieval. Dark ages Europe was far more progressive for fúck sake.

According to another thread, its all in the breastmilk. Seriously.

Women can mix with brothers, sons, uncles, father, nephews and husbands. But they can't go out without a related man with them. Or drive. Or leave the country. Or get medical attention. Or work. Or get an education. Or do anything basically.

    God is love. Apparently.

Barbaric tbh. Like something you'd see in medieval times.
The lashes are applied over a few weeks/months depending on the amount. They won't get all their lashes at once, how nice of them.

they do realise that dawn is very early in the summer, i was on a bus coming home (from a night out) at dawn the other day.

also, if you knew you were breaking the law then they should have just gone all out and had a crazy swingers party. one of those might be a worth a year in prison.

True but to say honestly what a place is like, one has to live the experience and look behind the curtain so to speak.
I did while in the course of work and what I found was very not the image the Saudi royal family would like you to see.

Wouldnt surprise me if the next thing we read about this is that the men will get away with it and only the women will receive their punishment.

Got to love religions, especially this one.

when a religion is enforced by the state that = corruption ,few civil rights
and crazy laws.Laws designed by fanatics.
when went thru this crap in ireland, remember when you had to be married to buy a pack of condoms, sex education did not exist in ireland cos 90 per cent of schools were run by the catholic church which thinks ignorance is a good thing.
even if you were a jew or muslim here, contraception was illegal.
church law was almost state law before the 80s.the sooner we have a proper secular state the better.

I was reading about the iran penal code (I know this is saudi but I imagine it's much the same). Apparently 9 year old girls but 15 year old boys are old enough for this kind of punishment. In every other aspect women need to be minded by men but in this apparently they're old enough to take responsibility much sooner
Sure remember a few months ago some girl was rude to her principal in school so she ended up with a lot of lashes, to be delivered IN the school as added humiliation.

The lashes are applied over a few weeks/months depending on the amount. They won't get all their lashes at once, how nice of them.
I'd call that worse, it'd feel worse each time and take much, much longer to heal  Barbaric idiots.

Says us from the country where people who rape children get suspended sentences...

Im saudi the laws are certainly extreme, a good deal more than in surrounding arabic countries, and especially towards basic human rights,

Although I wish we had the same punishment standards for serious offenders over here. A paedo over there when convicted, is locked up for the rest of his life with no release, and has a cane broken over his back once a month..

Also, "lashes" are conducted using a cane, that is designed not to break the skin

Um... what, for example, have "we" done along these lines? Irish people aren't in "glass-houses" - that's a load of ****. Even if there were human rights abuses carried out by our government, does that make ordinary Irish people responsible? Look at a list of countries and human rights abuses around the world and... shock horror! You won't find Ireland anywhere NEAR Saudi Arabia.
