Hi , I'm just back from Canada, and i was wondering if i can still claim the dole?
I quit my job before i left, as it was highly likely i was going to be let go, thing is, i heard somewhere that if you quit your job your not allowed to claim it. Is this true?
I'm planning on doing a night course also to help further my education is this also supplemented if unemployed?
    Thanks

It depends on what dole you apply for.. jobseekers benefit or jobseekers assistance. Assistance is means tested. Whether you qualify for Jobseekers benefit goes by the total number of contributions you made (see citizensinformation.ie)

I doubt you'll get anything for doing a night course otherwise everyone would be doing them. If you qualify for jobseekers you may get a discount on the cost of doing the course.

You can do a FAS course but I don't think they'll help you with the night course.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is there not some rule that you have to be back living in Ireland for a certain amount time before you can claim the dole or does that not apply if you're an Irish citizen? This is something I'm unsure about so hopefully someone here can enlighten me!

If you're Irish and have being living abroad your considered a habitual resident and you should be entitled to JA , reasons for leaving your previous job shouldn't be a problem... not like they can or even will check up
