whats the longest ball on the market at the moment, i was playing last week and one of the playing partners was hitting the ball alot further than normal for him, he said it was dont to the ball(nxt extreme) i did't belive him until i use them, they seem to come of the club face like a bomb

so has there been a test done to see which ball is the longest?

I did a bit of research into this a while ago, and I found that the Pinnacle Long Drive and Pinnacle FX Gold long, were the longest that are readly available here.
I have found them to be 10-15 metres longer than ProV1x. They are used in a lot of the long drive comps and were used in the Remax World long drive comp until recently.

Apparently the Slazengr Raw ball is now used and is longer, but I havent been able to put my hands on them in Europe. I might pick up a dozen when I am in Florida during the summer.

The pinnacles are great for showing off with the driver, but dont expect much stop or backspin with them.

I'm sorry, I really am, but............

I reckon Michael Ball has been on the market for years

You use rocks for golf balls?

Can I ask how are these balls like for stopping on greens, chipping and putting?

I can see them running for miles

Michael and Alan were walking past a house that was on fire, they spotted a child in the house so they ran into save him, never had someone been so lucky to be pulled out by the Balls....

It's all about expectations, They obviously dont spin as much as a pro v1 or other "soft balls". But once you know that, you dont try and get your 7 iron to bite and spin back. you just adjust the way you play.

I have pretty much played distance balls since I started playing so my game has developed around them. I can get my wedges and 8 and 9 iron to stop pretty much dead with these balls. But I feel for what I gain in distance and save in my wallet, these balls are worth it.

Golf World did a test on the Titleist and Pinnacle range of balls a few years ago with a robotic arm swinging the club*, and while they found the launch angles varied as the balls got softer, the overall carry and roll distance difference was only 6 yards between the shortest and longest. And even those 6 yards could be accounted for by a slight wind change, or bounce of the ball, seeing that it was an outdoor test.
Besides, all golf balls have to conform to the following by the R&A, which I don't think has changed in at least 15 years.
    5. Initial Velocity
The initial velocity of the ball must not exceed the limit specified (test
on file) when measured on apparatus approved by the R&A.
    6. Overall Distance Standard
The combined carry and roll of the ball, when tested on apparatus
approved by the R&A, must not exceed the distance specified under the
conditions set forth in the Overall Distance Standard(250 yards if I recall correctly) for golf balls on file
    with the R&A.
So, the short answer is, if you're an average golfer they all go more or less the same distance.

    * swing speed was set at the average swing speed of club players.

bull, there are soft balls and distance balls for a reason, there has to be more that 6 yards in the difference

    Yes, you're quite right.
Golf World magazine went to the trouble of doing empirical testing of Pinnacle golds, NXTs and Pro V1s etc, and then just made up the results.

I must say I find the golf world stats difficult to believe, but It all depends on how the test was carried out, If it was a robot swinging at 85mph, It will not be compressing these distance balls, so it will not be getting the best out of them.

As I said I have done a bit of research online and personally on launch monitors to try and find out what ball best optimised my distance off the tee. I can tell you now that I was getting an average difference of upto 20 metres from the same speed swing (ave 125mph when swinging out of my boots) and launch angle between the softest balls I tested and the pinnacle long drive and FX long.
