UPC gave my baby son Cable TV

Odd subject line I know, but UPC insisted we get a second HD DVR box installed in our 1 year old sons bedroom before they would install the other services we ordered.

We told the salesman that the wee man probably wouldn't care for it, but salesman insisted. We tried the same line with the installer, but he said the same thing. Of course, UPC didn't refer to it as the baby's room, they just wanted to install a second box and the easiest place to do that was the baby's room.

How are they making money if they are installing fancy DVR boxes that will never be used?

Otherwise we are very happy with the service.

EDIT: They are not charging us for the second box, it's included for free and we get all the same channels as the main box on it.

Well if it's free I wouldn't complain too much although they should have listened to you on where to put it, surely in your bedroom, living room would have been a better idea.

Might not be to hard a job to move the box depending on your type of house.

You are probably on one of there deals like where you have to take Multi room or else you are charged full price for each product...

Bit silly I know but at least you are getting the discount

Kitchen would have been more useful. All you need is coax to move it.

Unplug it so as to not corrupt the pur wee lad.

We don't actually own a TV. I wanted the 30mb broadband and took the best package deal they had as my mother is threatening to buy us a telly.

Can you tell us what package you signed up to? Seems like you havn't got the best deal available. Considering you don't have a telly you shouldn't need mrv.

    You don't have a TV?

What do you point your furniture at?

If all you wanted was broadband then Im pretty sure that there is no package available that makes it cheaper to take TV as well, especially if you dont want TV.

    Mad.

Far cheaper to just get BB on it's own and TV aerial for Irish TV and Dish + satbox (once off cost) for perfect Free TV. all the main UK channels (about 200+ TV and 70 odd Radio all, better quality than UPC).

    Dish Satbox - location dependent.

    ??

    Cable only in big cities.

Satellite works nearly anywhere. You can even have up to 1024 boxes off one dish.

It's less locked to location than Cable. You can run your own coax anywhere.

I have a €120 "expander" (16x16 Multiswitch) that lets me have up to 16 satellite receivers. You can get TVs with sat receiver built in or a card for PC.

Far more flexible than Cable TV.

But if you are in a Cable area it's great for Broadband + phone.

Mean't development dependent. Can't stick a satellite every where.

A "development" can have a shared dish. It's illegal to prevent it.

It's a dish. The Satellite is 22,500 miles / 45,000km approx above the equator, in Space. So indeed you can't put a Satellite anywhere.

    How is it illegal?

Most apartment buildings don't allow dishes, including where I live.
