    Hi all,

Im flying to belgium next monday into brussels charleroi. I want to bring my guitar but dont want to check it in because I dont trust the baggege handlers. Its an expensive acoustic, in perfect nic. Iv heard they sometimes try to charge you the price of a seat to bring it on board. I cant afford this. Ive also heard that some people kind of just blagged it on.

Does anyone know? Its an early morning flight so it shouldnt be too obvious or hectic.

    Thanks all.

    See
    http://www.ryanair.com/en/questions/can-i-check-in-a-musical-instrument-or-purchase-an-extra-seat-to-carry-it-in-the-cabin

    in relation to guitars,
Smaller musical items, such as a guitar, violin or viola which exceed our cabin baggage dimensions may be carried in the cabin, if an extra seat has been purchased.

A guitar is over their max baggage size so they will try make you purchase another seat, yes.

If your booking pretty far in advance you should be able to get the extra seat pretty cheap. As for getting the Guitar to answer its security questions for the online checkin? Your on your own :D

I presume that in such a circumstance, air taxes and per passenger airport charges would not be passed on to the customer....?

Well, if you are booking the seat and not providing a name then I don't see how they can take them off you.

Good luck explaining to the person who wants to sit beside you that the seat belongs to the guitar!

So you reckon that would seriously work?

Say i'm goin to book a ryanair flight and taht flight takes 90 mins, i would much prefer to pay an extra fiver or so for an extra seat, just to give me more room, space to stretch etc, and i wouldn't have to pay taxes etc. Hell, i could even buy 3 seats and have a kip

due to weight issues most airlines don't check guitars in. They just block the seat instead making it pretty straight forward to apply for a refund on taxes. Im sure Ryanair have a pretty similar policy but then again ryanair aren't most airlines:D

you could, but since Ryanair is free seating, there's nothing stopping me sitting in one of your three seats... ;)

Well if you were to say you had booked 2 seats for the guitar then the seats should be blocked off for you.

As for applying for a tax refund, ive heard the admin charge for applying is more than the tax...
