ITF Taekwondo competition

    Hi,

I am considering a return to taekwondo (ITF version). I am now 33 have just hung up my GAA boots and am looking for something to train towards. I trained up to blue belt level in taekwondo some years ago but never really gave full focus with a combination of GAA and general relaxation taking priority! Basically I was fairly crap!

I would like to have the option of regular tournaments to keep me focused and interested. My old school was ITF and affliliated to the RITA (Rep of Ireland Taekwondo Assoc). There doesn't seem to be any RITA in Cork City so I am now looking at is INTA (Irish National TKD Assoc). Both the RITA and INTA seem to have only 1 or 2 local tournaments on their calendar.

What I am wondering is can an INTA member enter RITA tournaments (both are ITF)? There also seems to be the IUTF (also ITF). Could they be entered too? It would be much more appealing to return if there were 6 + events that could be targeted annually.

    Thanks
    Sean

There are loads of TKD clubs in Cork so why not just give a few of them a go and see which one suits?

When I left TKD in 2003 there wasn't a whole lot of mixing between groups but that is better these days from what I can gather but I'd say there would be no shortage of competitions for you to enter.

    Hi,
Short ans is yes, no problem entering other assoc's comps. Have done it a fair bit myself and no issues. Most of the assocs will have some fighters in another assoc's comp...
Main ITF comps are prob INTA, IUTF, ITA and RITA ones...check the websites, think next ones might not be starting again now til Oct time...

Hi there, the IUTF are the only ITF group that have regular tournaments, all the other ITF groups have cut back on their amount of tournaments in the recent past.
Check out the ITF Ireland site www.itfireland.net for more info.

    Good luck
