    Hi all,

I and another member of the boards will be leaving from Dublin 6am this Thursday to Belfast to witness the Apple hype and also to get our pre ordered iphones.

There are 2 more spaces in the car so if any other apple fan wants to join youre more than welcome.

It should be heading up to the North (Belfast) instead of Newry Could any mod change that please?

The purpose to bring people along is not to save money on the diesel (lol) but just to enjoy the hype together with fellow fans from Dublin and make the boring drive to Belfast also enjoyable.

Ye but who will be the unlucky B@stard who has to drive home with 3 hyper active kids in the car playing with their new iphones knowing they can't play with theirs till they get home

Did you guys go up? Was there any hassle buying the phone up there and not activating it in the shop? And was there any hassle activating here on the irish prepay network?

I went up no hassles what so ever. And the sim free ones are really sim free.

(some people were saying they are not sim free as it locks to the first network you active on).

As I have activated it with O2 Ireland when I got home and have recently switched back to Vodafone.

the sim free ones are unlocked, so its impoossible for it to lock onto the first network sim it gets.

just a word of advice for anyon who is going up to belfast at any stage and picking one up, if you need it there and then activated, the only thing you can do is cut your sim card down prior to arriving at the store so they can insert it and activate it there and then, we couldnt get ours activated cause we had the big sims, and they had no micro sims lying about in the store.

Thanks for the quick replies lads. So if I go up to them with a vodafone Ireland micro sim, they will activate it up there no bother for me? I reserved one on their website, and it says for pay as you go, I must bring a UK Credit/debit card.. I take it this doesnt matter if youre on the southern network..

Depends on what exactly you're buying. If you're buying a pay as you go phone for one of the UK carriers then there will be hassle as, regardless as to whether or not they enforce the UK card rule, you'll have to wait for the phone to get unlocked before you can use your Irish sim. If you are buying a sim free phone then there is no hassle at all, Irish card can be used for the purchase, and the Irish sim can be used straight away without any problems.

yeah dont go and buy it PAYG, like poster above me said, your gonnna have a lot of trouble.
you should of picked sim free, but yes, once you've got a micro sim, it can be activated, we just wanted ours activated for the sole purpose of plying about on it on the way home as opposed to using it as a phone lol

I didnt choose either, I just rang the store and they put me down for an iphone 4 16gb. The email I got stated I could go PAYG or BILL.. Nothing about sim-free, do I need to get this changed with them or is it all the same phone?
