I got a number of phone calls today to confirm details from Dell, over a purchase I made yesterday.
I was weary as they neve mentioned the email which also had been sent at the same time asking me to fax a copy of my passport to them.

Email address is DE_Clr_Validation@dell.com which on the face of it looks ok.
I rang Dell on the number on the website and was very annoyed to me told ring back tomorrow when all dept are open. (Thanks Ram K for being so helpful)

Has this happened to anyone else buying from Dell?

Sounds like standard credit/customer vetting procedure. If they can quote the relevant order details and order number, you can be sure it's genuine. It's something that all business apply on a random basis across orders received.

I bought from their online ebay outlet store before and they rang me to confirm details. Although I think they emailed me saying they would ring me.

I never give any details to someone ringing me, I always offer to ring them back.
