Sky + box died

My Sky + box died this evening and I don't fancy paying sky €100 to come out and have a look at it.
It is a Pace model TDS470NB 80GB and basically none of the indicator lights come on (although it has always been hard to see if the on light is on), and the hard disk sounds like it is trying to spin up (but isn't) and basically nothing happens.

Anybody have any ideas on how I should go about troubleshooting this problem myself, should I take out the hard drive, can I replace the PSU, any and all suggestions welcome.

Also if it comes to it, if I buy a Sky + box from ebay for example, is there anything I need to be aware of, or are they all standard box's and a box from the UK will work over here without problems

Why not use our very own adverts.ie?

Sky+ boxes regularly go for less than €40

Already have put an ad on adverts, was more looking for info on what I need to do when I replace it, and to see if anyone knew a way to fix it. Thanks for the suggestion anyway

My Sky+ box recently wiped the HD for no reason and then wouldnt record programes or would come up program rec failed. We rang sky asking what had happened and they told me blah blah its busted, mo' money plz!

After pointi out to them that i was a loyal customer etc (crafty playing this) i said fine, im not paying that to fix a box that broke. I stream my tv anyways etc. I demanded they disconnect me and come to take away the box and the sattelite. They wernt too happy with that. After 2more mins they had agreed to send out a repairman to check it and if it couldnt be fixed, a brand new box.

Got the box, brand new, still with its clear plastic film on it.

Moral of the story: hassel the c**ts. You paid enough over the past while...

Or, if you don't want to get your hands dirty... call Sky, tell them you would like to cancel because you don't have the money to replace the box. See if they send a free engineer or offer you a HD box at a discount.

Stick in a bigger hard drive if you want more recording space-have fun.If it goes tits up go the 'call sky route' and be creative on the phone:D
