Hi im new to this forum been reading over it and alot of interesting questions and informed answers. I have been driving for two weeks now and getting on grand apart from a few issues

    1) When approaching a red light should you work your way down through the gears or is it okay to stop in third and pull up the handbrake

    2) When I take a sharp turn I have a habit of letting the steering wheel go to straighten itself out if you get me , how should this be done properly and safely

    Thanks

It is perfectly acceptable to stop at a red light in third/fourth gear. There is no requirement to go down through the gears when you are coming to a complete stop.

You should feed the steering wheel back through your hands when you are finished your turn, the above would not be acceptable in a test situation as you are not in full control of the wheel.

    1) Stopping in third is actually preferable than stopping in second. Only go down to second if in slow moving traffic (if you try to stay in third, you will be tempted to coast rather have the car start chugging along)

    2) I used to do this! But if you hit a pothole or pavement the car would swerve.
