Fingers cross the 'beloved character' who gets killed off is the bitchy son! If they decide to kill off the son's bit on the side while he's waiting for his old girlfriend, I have no further reason to watch the show (apart from coming on there and bitching obviously :) )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,259 ✭✭✭downwithpeace

Well nuts, I thought the beloved character had gotten angry and nicked all the tapes so Fox couldn't air any more episodes, go figure it would really only be a week off.
On the plus side this tread will stay interesting.

Nope, no House either...or CSI, or 90210....or Ringer, to add insult to injury....no Fringe tonight!

Ep. 4 was brutal also, way too PG family friendly show, no grit or guts, Fox tryna capture every possible demographic. Waste of money.

Fresh episode tonight, look forward to reading pages of snark!

Not the worst episode. Still Voyager/Stargate-ish material though. It's holding my interest (just about).

They need to accelerate the Sixers' story arc.

I hear, by the end of the season they will have ramped it up a good bit and be pretty much finished with it.
Wasn't a brutal episode but it wasn't great. I felt like an episode of CSI or some other 'procedural' show. Here's hoping some big revelations come think and fast in the next couple of weeks or I'm out of here.

Wasn't to bad, felt like a mid season filler story with a touch of what's to come but managed to hold my interest. Better then the last few for sure, just not much.

What's the big deal about the favour he owes Mira.

Mira: Hey, emo kid, I'm calling in that favour and I'm going to get you to do something you'd never do in a million years.
Emo kid: Pffft, go fúck yourself. I've got what I want.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,259 ✭✭✭downwithpeace

He'll never do the favour, still can't stand him.
Skye should kill him and move on.

Even for a procedural that episode wasn't too bad:

    Observations:
    - O'Meara is better as a cop than head of Dino Family Robinson. More of that please.
    - Some good ideas raised about the nature of Terra Nova. The inhabitants like to think of it as some techno-nature-paradise where in effect it's a frontier settlement with the odd fancy gizmo. It was hinted at (but should have been said) that imprisonment costs resources so exile is the only realistic punishment for serious crime.
    - You got the odd flash from Taylor of some past pain (perhaps his wife?) when he was watching the interrogation. Some more backstory of Terra Nova would be good. How it was founded, flashbacks to Taylor's time alone etc.
    - What idiot goes out alone into dino country? The vic was asking to be chomped.

Yeah this was my feeling also at the start of the episode. Like why in every episode are random people wandering around the jungle AT NIGHT!!!!!! I mean they might as well dress themselves up as giant steaks and sit in a bath of marinade whilst they are at it. Every episode this seems to happen

Big jump up in quality this week.

Arguably the best episode since the pilot.

Hopefully they move the main story along now.

I dunno about that. It really does feel like they think the audience is stupid and need to explain everything all the time.

So they are herding the big Spinosaurus towards terra nova using tiny men and fire. The dinosaur would eat them. It's silly, but I'll go with it because its good for the plot.

Do we really need the black sixer lady to explain to the camera, "We are luring this dinosaur to terra Nova everyone!" Within 5 seconds of seeing the scene you know what they are doing. It's obvious. Because we have eyes.

They do this about a dozen times an episode. Your audience isn't stupid. Don't treat them like they are! Why did they feel the need to beat us over the head with the fact that the guy who now has the box is Taylors son? We know this already. It's obvious. Its just pointless exposition and we don't need it.

Its still too much of a carebear show anyway. Last week they exiled somebody. In reality, its a death sentence. The producers realised after shooting the episode that it might upset some people, so they have the actor for Taylor come in and do some off camera ADR line about it not being a death sentence and that he has rations or some other nonsense. That wasn't in the script and they just added it for the soccer moms.

    butchest character ever!

    the start of this rofl!

The start of that episode reinforces a past post regarding the Commander.

Might be a little cryptic but I would make a terrible spy, start of the episode has a scene with
the Commander and Shannon fishing when Shannon catches something and the Commander has to grab on to him
but it reminded me of a post someone made about the Commander having a thing for Shannon.

    Brilliant.

The show is still too cutesy for my liking. The final scene in the recent ep where we saw Taylor's son was very disappointing. It just came across as so phony and his line about 'Daddy dearest will have to choose between Terra Nova and his son' or something was just so cliched and lame.

It has neither a clever plot nor outstanding action and so what you end up with is basically a spoonfed story of family issues set amidst this crazy background which they seem unwilling to really take advantage of.

Pretty dull episode (after a good one last week).
The special effects at the start were a bit fishy. :pac:

This weeks ep wasn't the worst, some background on the commander, his son and the barkeeper.

Still, the sixers managing to make another successful raid on the (supposedly better armed and trained) soldiers is getting boring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,061 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

If the Sixers are supposed to be working for the evil corporations back on earth how come they're the ones running around in furs and living in trees? If they can open portals at random any time they want with no visible technology why arent they better supplied than the colony? The scene where the general came back was crap I thought, he just pops out on his own in the bushes in his dress uniform, no luggage, no escort? And the formulae written in the rocks, not the work of some civilization that lived before humans, just gimp-boy leaving them around for Daddy, lame. How is he doing any work anyway if he's just lurking in the bushes and why doesnt he get eaten? If anyone from TN go out on their own the dinosaurs are on them instantly.

Agree about the TN soldiers, they just fall over when anything comes near them, surely they'd have some experienced people from all the future wars to send back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,990 ✭✭✭squonk

Yup, this week's episode was a bit better than the usual fodder. I agree that the TN soldiers aren't up to much. For a bunch of guys in armed vehicles to be take out so easily is damning. I'd have imagined the commander would have been having an even bigger bitch fit over them being taken so easilly rather than waht Shannon was up to!

What I'm not getting is this though.... if the sixers are working for big corportations who want to suck the life out of the prehistoric world and raid the place for resources, then why are they bothering? Earth in 2149 is on it's last legs we're led to believe. Surely if you were a corporation, a better money making scheme would be to build your own colony and charge high prices to bring people there? It hardly seems worthwhile bringing resources back to a ****ed planet?

If I was that soldier who's going out with Shannon's daughter, I'd be running a mile after this week's episode. She seems way too keen. I wouldn't have been surprised if she started dry humping his leg at the rate she was carrying on!

I don't get the whole drama over Taylor killing his commander. At the start it looks like Taylor is trying to cover it up and is going to go to any length to keep Shannon quiet but he then just fesses up and it's all OK after that. it's screwy! Shannon was framed but, hey, that's all water under the bridge now! I dunno!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,984 ✭✭✭Venom

This weeks episode would of been good if it had of been episode 2 or 3 but this late in the season and after all the rubbish storylines that we've gotten since the pilot just highlights how bad the writers really are.

Taylor blowing his chance to find the sixer spy just to screw around with cop dad is not only retarded but screws over the tiny bit of story progression his character has had since the beginning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,259 ✭✭✭downwithpeace

Enjoyable episode but I would agree it could have been a little earlier in the series given it actually followed the main storyline, somewhat.

Shannon eating the nuts in the bar bugged me, the place was trashed and he still picks up nuts and eats them. The commander and Shannon story seemed odd at first but thinking about it it was actually cleverly done but only if the writers continue to use them as the Terra Nova savour duo, if not then it was pointless.

Seriously though, how did it not make the editing room floor?

    Let's look again...

    :eek::eek:

It wasn't an absolutley necessary scene was it?

It basically just cheapened the feel of the rest of the episode as I couldn't get that gammy looking fish out of my head!

Surely this is goin to be cancelled as soon as possible no??????

haha thats is ridiculous:eek:i havnt seen that episode yet, but how could they have done it so badly...it looks so like they just cut out a scene from the discovery channel or something and fit it into the show, thats just unbelievable!that bit where shannon got pulled forward looked terribly done too:P so now the show has bad visual effects too..couldnt really get much worse but i still like watching it when im bored:p

Maybe I just have poor taste in television but I'm quite enjoying Terra Nova and have no shame in saying so.

Sometimes I think people expect too much from their television programmes or they get a kick out of criticising every little thing.

Are there things that could improved? Yes, probably.

But for me TN is good entertainment and escapism. Perhaps some people need to try and enoy for what it is and stop trying to find things to complain.

^ i did a catch up yesterday and watched ep. 6/7/8/9......it's OK i guess, i'm not a big fan. My fave character is actually little Chloe!, Taylor....ep. 9, the end....i think he's lying and i got a real sense this guy thinks he's a messiah or something.

There is a very strong cult leader vibe coming from this guy, did you see the deliberate shot when the fireworks were going off?....also note the change in background music, from a fireworks sound to the sound of war, guns and bombs.....i think that telegraphed that Taylor is hiding alot.

I'm think portal communication at anytime has always been possible + i think two way trvel through the rift was also part of the original design, i think Taylor changed things on his side.

He may have gone rouge or even mental....his speech to Jim and explanations, i'm not buying it. Early in this thread people suggested the sixers would end up being the good guys, i now agree this will happen. Also i think the major death in the finale will be Taylor.

The CGI is some of the worst in recent memory, shoddy and cheap....for such a "high concept" show with dinosaurs, you barely see them!, it's an utter waste of money....they could have shot it on green screen and it probably look alot better then buliding huge sets.

I hope it doesn't get cancelled, ok the effects are a bit cheap compared to bigger movies but at least it's Science Fiction on TV.
Been a while since there has been any of that since Star Gate was cancelled.

Yeah I kinda agree. Its scifi on tv. Nothing else new sci fi on these days

what age is the Reynolds supposed to be? she's 16 in the show, 17 I hope. he's 25 in real life and she's 18, always seemed a bit dodgy like he's military officer and she's a very young looking school girl.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,259 ✭✭✭downwithpeace

Another goodish episode, kept my interest for the most part.
That Reynolds bit is a little strange, not sure if they ever said his in show age but he still seems older then her even if he acts the bigger plonker.

    Hopefully it gets another season.

So I reckon the spy is
    either malcolm or Shannon's wife......probably shannon's wife

Ok so the big question I have so far resisted asking. If terra nova is earth is in the past what about the grandfather paradox??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,254 ✭✭✭overshoot

    spy id
    its sky!
    -ep10
they covered grandfather paradox(in about 30seconds, blink and you missed it), its some alternate reality aparantly. the probe sent through the portal was never recovered, thus its a different timeline... that was it
