This is always on of my favourite fun runs. Lovely crowd, well organised and good route for a pb. On at 10a.m. this saturday morning.

Any other boardsies partaking in it?

Yup, signed up this morning. I missed bilboa on Friday night so looking forward to this. It looks like a fast course.

All signed up for this too.

Warmed up for it in Bilboa on Friday...I think any 10k would seem easy after that :D

Anyone know if this is AAI permitted/accurately measured ten k, might give it a go but have heard rumours of being short ??

Haven't heard anything about it being short - it is a fast course though.

It seems to consistently attract the top level local athletes so I'm sure if there were issues regarding course length they'd have been raised & sorted out before now.

I guess a quick call/mail to the organisers would confirm this either way

i'd agree, found bilboa very tough myself. top marks for organisation though, complete with tea & sandwiches afterwards.
    best of luck saturday!

    To Clare10k people:

    Hi there,

Just wondering has the route been AAI permitted/accurately measured as a 10km route? Just wondering, as there have been rumblings of it being short previous years.

    Kind Regards,

    Marie C

    From Clare10k people:

    Marie,

You needn't worry about the rumblings. It's 10k on the nose.

It's been measured numerous times to ensure there are no inaccuracies. You can take it from me, the official AAI trundle wheel has been around the course!! And if you speak to people saying it's short you might set them straight.

    Thanks

Anyone know if it's possible to pick up race numbers on Saturday? I got an email saying I had to go out to the Clare People offices either this evening or tomorrow evening to collect the number. Bit of extra hassle tbf.

If you know anyone in Ennis they could easily pick it up for you i'd say....was out there y'day evening and saw a few people coming out with more than 1 race pack.

Not looking forward to this as much as I should be.....have felt pooped all week so the last thing I feel like doing tmrw morning is running at full pelt for c.41mins :(

    I'm in for it.

New to this whole thing - the timing chip seems kinda on the big side. Where's the best place to attach it to? If it's closer to the toes, does it interfere with the bending of your foot?

What time should we be at the start by? (We're car pooling - is there space for parking? Is there somewhere safe to leave things (like the car key)?)

haven't seen the chip yet, but best place to attach it to would up near the laces, that way it wont restrict your foot movement.

when you turn on to the Lee's road, and drive down about 0.5km, you will notice people parking down to the right, big empty fields that are used for parking for this event. You are not far then from the centre, maybe a 1km walk/jog. Be there for no later than 9:30ish Id say, just to give ye time etc to park and walk up. As for where to leave your stuff - leave yer belongings in the car and then one of ye put the car key in a secure pocket of shorts perhaps?

re: the timing chip - it's one of the old style ones alright. Best thing is to attach in the centre of your laces. Also, make sure that it's collected by someone at the finish line....very easy to forget this in the excitement/confusion at the end

re: Parking - didn't do this race last year but in 2008 they had well organised parking near the start. They don't have a baggage drop as far as i know so you'll prob have to carry your key

Knocked another 45 secs off my PB but still room for improvement.

Got thru 5k in 19:25 but had to take an unpexpected (and inexplicably long!) pee break around 6k. Finished in 40:45 so pretty happy but really need to sort out my pre-race water intake strategy:)

All aspects of the race were well organised & managed from my perspective - the massage at the finish was most welcome & nice to have KM markers too for pacing.

Anyway hope everyone enjoyed the day - roll on the Coillte 10k in Dundrum

guys well done to everybody who did this. I was down that direction for the weekend and not realising the race was on I stumbled into the middle of the race. Pulled over by the courthouse and decided to cheer you on. Really warm morning so kudos to anyone running it.

I didn't notice any timing mats at the start? Did I miss them? It doesn't make much sense to have the chips but to give everyone the same start time.

Wow hot morning for a run!! I started this race up the top but with a few children trying to run at the very top, and then stop and turning back, it slowed things down momentarily for people (bit of a safety hazard also!). Anyway off we went then. Route is lovely, plenty of water stations which were badly needed. Up until approx the 6/6.5km mark there was very little shelter from the sun and it was just energy sapping, not alot that could be done to ignore its effects. Was relatively happy with my pace, decided not to beat myself up about it until 7-8km where I pushed it on as much as I could. Came in at 48:59. Not a p.b. but such is life. Enjoyed the event, great crowd, great weather so can't complain too much.

The Top 30 finishers are on a barely legible list on the website (click on the FFF tab). I assume the rest of the times should be available in the not too distant future:confused:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,846 ✭✭✭Cartman78

The results are available in today's edition of the Clare People....the person I contacted wasn't sure when they'd be available online

I have a real soft spot for Bilboa too...it's a much much tougher course and I'll never run a PB there but there's a real sense of community spirit that appeals to me.

It's my 2nd time doing the Clare 10k....fast course, well organised, nice medal, massages...would rank it highly amongst the 10k's i've done.

BTW - if anyone wants to know their finish time/position, feel free to PM me or whatever and I'll look it up in the paper

I got all the timing chip times emailed to me, Iv it attached (I Hope) if anyone wants to check it out. I assumed everyone that had a timing chip got the email.
