I recently went through the an post recruitment system for a temporary post (which I didn't get so I won't give you any advice ). It might be different if your going for a permanent position but I'll tell you anyway:

The assessment was in the GPO, I was in a group of maybe forty people, there was three sections 1) Maths, 2) Spelling and Punctuation 3) Clerical Checking. The assessment was weeks and weeks before the interview. It's multiple choice and if you got to the assessment stage they should have sent you a sample test.

If you get through the assessment it was about a three weeks to a month's wait to be called for the interview. Then the interview was a full formal interview (lasting 40mins). Then it was another two weeks before I got a form for a medical check and a reference check.

Hope this helps and best of luck.
