Removing tax/insurance holder

I want to remove my current tax/insurance holder and put a new one in place. The existing one appears to have been welded to the windscreen. My plan is to use nailvarnish remover or lighter fluid to remove the stickiness first. Other than the smell, are there any reasons why I shouldn't do this?

If using nail varnish remover, be careful of spillage, you could damage a plastic dash. The smell would probably disperse quicker than lighter fluid though.

Tear it off as much as possible. If it's been on a while it's likely that there will be a few bits left on the windscreen. I'd use a Stanley blade to get these off.

Any sticky residue can then be taken off with nail varnish remover on a piece of cotton wool, but as mentioned above be very careful not to get the nail varnish remover on the dash or it could damage it.

Thanks both - tearing, blade and nail varnish remover was the way I went with, all good, very little of the blade needed, and dash remains undamaged :)
