Has the writing quality really dropped?

I didn't want to read any spoilers or threads re: Glee until i saw eps. 14-22, but now that i have i read alot of discord and negative comments saying that since Glee came back in the Spring the quality has gone down, why so?

The writing?, or has the show become too popular and being corrupted?, i didn't really mind the Madonna ep. as it wasn't as bad as i thought it might, Sue was perfect for Vogue....and i liked 4 Minutes (but wanted Rachel and Finn singing).

In a way i understand some of the points, that the script is driving the songs/artists instead of the songs complementing the script, guests etc. being put in, songs smouthering episodes etc.

Me personally i loved what i saw and had no complaints, it all seemed in line with the first 13 eps. - though i did fear at one point a shark jumping moment if Artie suddenly walking wasn't a dream sequence!....i said to myself, jump the shark much?....you gotta be kidding?...but it was a dream sequence (thank god).

But as someome said on the forum, it's Glee...it's not unrealistic to think Artie could just get up and walk, i heard others comment about aspects such as "be yourself" or it's like an after school special, but why not?....why not put out positive messages to your fans?

Many of which are in high school, Mercedes for example and her speech about self accepance an her weight, i thought was a positive message, they also deal with subtle homophobia like that "faggy" bedroom with Kurt and Finn.

I thought Kurts dad handled that well and spoke truth, in every day language people say faggy and it's intended the way people say it, even if they deny it...like Finn.

Glee is hugely popular now, i think the writers and people behind it have an oppertunity and responsiblity to it's viewers, putting out postive messages and tackling issues is a good thing imo, even if it does come across preechy at times.

Overall my primary concern is that Glee will (as people have pointed out) loose it's way, get too popular, that it's scripts will become weak and they'll just coast along because they have two guaranteed seasons....The OC got the same and S2 onwards was dire, imo i think it's a bad idea to give shows these guarantees, giving them 13 ep. orders would ensure they don't coast along and ride the popularity wave.

Lets hope Ryan Murphy is ware of all this.

I think the dialogue is still as snappy as ever in the second half, but I think the plot continuity fell at the wayside a bit. The Jesse/Shelby storyline was never really resolved and the romances (Finn/Rachel and Emma/Will) stopped and started a lot. I was a little disappointed with how quickly Quinn's pregnancy story was dealt with too, it had been a major storyline throughout the season and it was finished very quickly in the finale.

I agree though, I think the story with Kurt's dad has been one of the strongest since the mid season break.
