I've had a room rented out to my brother for €500.00 per month for the last year or so. He has just been made redundant and his seeking rent allowance. For this to happen I have to register as a landlord. I have also just lost my job, does anyone know whats involved in registering and how likely he would be to be accepted for it?

    Thanks in advance,

    J2606

    Where is your house?
If you're in dublin the max you can charge your bro is €92 per week for him to qualify for rent allowance. elsewhere the rate is 66 to 76 per week.
This income will also be taken into account if you claim jobseekers assistance.

You do not have to register eg with PTRB as a landlord to fill in the Rent Allowance forms.

They are two very different systems.

Also there are different rules for those letting a room also, rather than a house..

But still no requirement to register for that reason.

Go to the PTRB website for fuller info.
