UPC HD Box - Weird HDMI issue

Just recently had two HD boxes installed. On both tv's, if the tv is off for a while, when I turn the tv on I get a "No Signal" message on the screen even though the UPC box is on and I'm on the HDMI channel. When I switch the UPC power off at the switch and turn it back on the signal comes through.

I don't really have a clue how HDMI works, but it seems that the upc signal stops transmitting through the cable when the tv is turned off. Would this be right? The HDMI slots all work fine for xbox, dvd etc and I've also tried switching cables.

Thanks, any help is really appreciated as the kids are going mad over it.

have a look at this thread

according to upc its a problem with some tvs not receiving the hdcp from the box

I have to always turn my HD box on before I turn my TV on, otherwise I get 'NO SIGNAL' on my TV.

It's a common enough occurrence with all kinds of combinations of TV's and media devices, not just UPC's box unfortunately. Each side blames the other, and you end up getting nowhere. I'm not sure whether it's down to incorrect implementations of HDCP on one or the other device, or whether the HDCP specs aren't as watertight as they might be and thus open to interpretation / timing issues.

tbh, it's getting a bit annoying for my wife and daughters, I never had such a problem with Sky.
I'm considering going back to scart on the boxes to save the hassle.

celticbest: do you actually switch the UPC box off at the back or just put it on standby? Doesn't it defeat the object of having a pvr if you turn the power off?

I had the same problem....the solution was to change the piece of crap hdmi cable that UPC supply. After much frustration, I bought a bush one in argos for about €20. Hope that solves your problem if you haven't already left them.
