Slipping back into old habits..

Well I was a regular visitor here on the run up to my leaving cert but once the actual exams started I slipped back into my old ways.. Started snacking on biscuits and cakes rather than fruit and veg.. Started buying more fizzy drinks (Mainly Monster to give me a caffeine boost) and going for the easy options again in regards to meals..

But now that I'm finished.. (Well almost finished, one more exam on the 23rd) I want to go back to the healthy options again. I really find it difficult to follow my diet because there's like no variety.. I was pretty much eating the same thing every day and the temptation for fatty foods was just too much :P

So what I'm looking for is advice on what to do with my diet.. The only thing I was able to stick to was smoothies.. How do you guys stick to whole healthy foods all the time? My calorie limit is just under 2000 last time I checked.

I know there was quite a few helpful tips, but I'm still finding it hard to stick to it for long periods of time..

    My diet was pretty much..
Breakfast: Ready break with a tablespoon and porridge and a tablespoon of 'Milled Linseed, Goji Berries, Sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds' - I've managed to stick to this most of the time but some mornings the thought of a hot bowl of ready break is so unappealing..

Lunch: Lunch generally consists of eggs.. Usually some variation of an omelet with peppers and mushrooms :P Sometimes I'd just fry them or boil them though

    Snack: Usually some fruit

Dinner: Steak / Chicken breast / Stir fry

Snack: Smoothie with fat free natural yoghurt and 3 or 4 types of fruit with a tablespoon of honey and a tablespoon of the milled seed stuff

I've just been finding it really hard to stick to it because of the lack of variation.. I get bored of eating the same thing everyday.. So I resort to munching on biscuits :( How do I stick to it!?

You're really the only person who can make yourself stick to it to be honest, if you don't want it enough then you won't. It's not difficult, you know what you have to do. I know you might not like it, but if you want results you're going to have to just suck it up til the cravings go and you get used to eating healthier. There really isn't anymore advice you can be given, you just need to stop thinking and start doing :)

Use google, search recipes for healthy snacks, dinners etc. that include the food that you like. Don't tell me you have no variety because I'm a veggie, I don't eat starchy carbs or junk food and I still manage to have a pretty varied diet. There are as many types of fruit and veg as there are biscuits and cakes.

Oh and congrats on finishing the exams :)

learn to cook... You can make almost anything you want to eat, and it will taste nicer because you cooked it yourself

    +1

This is the one the best things you can do if you want to take control of your diet

    Change stuff.
Try eating stuff that is of similar quality and yet not the same.
Replace the steak or chicken with lean lamb or turkey breast/mince.
    Or Pig.

You can have a good diet without living on chicken/steak/porridge.

Also....have the occasional biscuit. They're delicious and trying not to eat any at all generally results in eating whole packets at 11pm.

That's what I've been doing past few days.. Except it was 2 or 3 every day..

New week, new rules. Gonna start off fresh again. Taking up C25K after my last exam on Wednesday and joining a gym next month when the one nearby opens :D

You can sing it... I will go a whole week without eating anything bad, then his saturday and I could eat a whole pack of biscuits, whole packet of jelly tots, chipper food etc etc, not good :(
