cows are getting 3.5kgs of a 16% protein nut and we are getting a 4 litre response so its worth the money considering milk price is at 30 and cost of the nut is 20.
The main reason they are getting so much is because we have got very little rain when other parts of the country did, so grass is extremely tight and we are stocked at 3.7 cows/ha. Had the slurry tank out this evening to put some water on paddocks grazed during the week so the water will at least wash in the fertilizer. Terrible thing to say but I'd love a days rain!!!!!!

agree with this , unlike last year , it pays you to feed meal ( within reason ) this year

drought is indeed becoming an issue , that said , we cant really complain in this country about droughts , we only get them on average every ten years

cows off meal this good while, except for any thing that hasnt cycled yet.
    3 kg 14 % high energy nut
hate seeing the meal lorry coming into the yard when the sun is shining and the fields are green

feeding no meal at present, happy with yields and with solids ..................but grass is starting to slow up 'cos of drought, spreading a little can and well watered slurry, but may have it consider meals shortly as no rain forecast here for next 7 days:eek:
