Freedom of information

I was talking to a friend who made his living up until two years ago as a truck driver. one night he got home from the pub and got into an argument with his missus. he went out to his car to cool off which was parked beside his house. while in his car his missus called the gardai. when they arrived he was sitting in the drivers seat. the engine was not on and he had earlier drank a few pints and was over the limit. the end result was that his license was revoked for 6 years. he would like to get mainly the arresting garda statement of events and any other related information to the incident that the gardai have on file. will this information fall under the freedom of information act and what is the process to get the ball rolling? thanks.

    Talk to a solicitor.

His solicitor probably got them in court. I've never known a solicitor not to ask for them in a drink driving case. 6 year ban for drunk in charge sounds like there is a bit missing from your story though.

Im thinking there is a bit missing as well but thats all i know. will help him with the freedom of information and pass on any words of wisdom i hear and let him work away but six years is too steep if its as simple as that so he might get it reduced or dismissed on a technicality.

6 years for a first offence means he was way over the limit or he failed to comply with the tests. Either way the whole story is not there. As was said in post 2, call a solicitor.
