Eating properly while working long hours..

    So I have turned my diet around and everything is going well thus far, fingers crossed..

    Now we are about to get really busy in work, which will be 12+ hour days for a month to six weeks where we normally order in pizza in for dinner or similar rubbish like that.

    What are my options for when Im in work doing crazy hours, and trying to keep a somewhat decent diet up? Bring in stuff I make from home in myself I guess? Anything else that Im not thinking of?

    If they have a fridge there, bring in some sort of interesting salad thing from home (or even buy a bag of washed salad on the way to work) and eat it with some nice protein. If they have a microwave, you are made-up. Cook double at dinner and save the rest for lunch. Something like a grilled steak tastes completely different when it is sliced thinly, mixed with some horseradish and eaten cold as part of a salad.

    I would also throw some cottage cheese or small portions of cheese in the fridge, and carry some small packets of nuts or tuna.

    Fruit as well, I know I will get into trouble for saying it but I find a banana very filling. Natural yogurt as well, mix with some blueberries. Cook some chicken breasts at the weekend and freeze individualy and eat with some salad that you can buy or bring in. When you are cooking, cook double and freeze in individual portions it generally doesnt take much more time if you are cooking anyway to cook twice as much. Where do you work? are there any better options sushi or soup for example? Insomnia do a great "home" made type soup, very tasty and filling.

    I work long hours including night shifts and at the weekend as well.

    I usually cook enough dinner for 2 days and bring one portion with me to work and reheat it there. Typically a stir-fry, some pasta etc. Otherwise I'll make a big salad with chicken breast strips and take that.

    For a snack I'll usually have a pot of cottage cheese and a packet of oat cakes (not all at once). They're usually good keeping the hunger off until things are quiet enough to have a big dinner. Buy a packet of cashew nuts or something to pick at when you're peckish too.

    We're lucky enough that we have a kitchen of sorts with fridge, microwave and even cooker with a hob so really i should be more adventurous with what i eat at work :-)
    If you didn't have a fridge and need to keep stuff cool, use a cooler bag or a bag of ice to keep things cool!

    All this talk of food has me hungry...time to go reheat the pork stir-fry in the fridge!
