Did you call them to ask why?

I didn't think ESPN America HD was launching until Monday.

I sent an email to UPC asking about ESPN America HD and here's the response I got:

"Thank you for your email. Unfortunately ESPN America is not available in HD yet but we are releasing a whole new line of HD channels in November so if you wish to give us a call then regarding this please feel free to do so. Apologies for any inconvenience caused."

But then I turn on ESPN HD and ESPN America HD is there instead?

I rang someone this morning about and she didn't have a clue what was going on, she certainly wasn't aware of it when I spoke to her, she said it was possibly an issue caused by ESPN themselves.

I just rang them to report the problem so they went off to check channel 416 in the call centre - but guess what - they are not subscribed to that channel.

So then I was told that they would send a series of test signals to my box to check for missing channels. I asked them not to (as I did not want the box messed up by them sending signals to it). And also - I do not have missing channels, they are giving me the wrong feed on one channel.

It appears that the call will not get logged to the correct department until the results from these test signals return. I was promised that these signals would not cause any issues to my box.

I explained that it is the wrong feed coming in and that my box will report back HD channel on 416 and that it is being decoded - I could be wrong but I doubt that they will get any real information from it.

So after being promised that there would be no issues with my channels, viewing or recording I told them to go ahead with the test signals.

To be honest the call centre person was getting a bit short with me - it really does depend on who you get there. Some of them know the score and some of them do not have a clue.

I've put in a few calls with UPV helpdesk over the past few weeks for a number of issues and I must say they don't seem to have a clue about what's going on with anything. I'm geting different answers to the same problems, others no answers at all. I don't think their training is sufficient.

So how did ESPN America HD look?

I was watching baseball on it last night and it looked very good; as good as ESPN HD normally looks (as good as the baseball on 416 looks at the moment). Hopefully theyll add ESPN America HD soon to the package but if we have to wait until November for it and other HD channels then I wont be impressed.

Yup - quality was as good as ESPN HD - you could tell that you were watching a HD channel. Come on Mr. UPC - give us more HD channels.

well the launch is Monday, so it's possible we may see something by then but I doubt it.

I don't see why you wont have it soon. UPC have obviously got the feed already.

The reason ESPN ARE DECIDING to broadcast ESPN America HD on their normal ESPN HD channel s because they have no high definition content to show on ESPN HD right now for the whole day, because they don't really have the rights for much to show at this time of the year, so they are showing stuff from America in HD from the HD feed from that channel, rather than endless repeats or SD stuff.

How do I know this? I actually bothered to read the programme guide on the ESPN website and the ESPN America shows just happened to corrolate with what was listed on ESPN HD.

Myths dismissed, and conspiracy theories disproven.

So the schedules have been the exact same for two days?

I was looking for the schedules - can you provide a link to the ESPN HD schedule?

I am actually a little surprised at this as the Aussie Rules football and the replays of game 7 in the NBA finals were on ESPN during the time that ESPN America was on channel 416 - plenty of viewable HD sport.

Also is it too much to ask that UPC know what is being shown on what channel?

yeah I thought the Aussie rules was HD and ESPN America was on the HD channel at that time, so it doesn't correlate that there was no HD content available, unless the Aussie rules is being upscaled but I doubt it considering the HD channels in Australia.

I reckon they were just trying out ESPN America HD.
