Is the V sign going out of fashion? Do people just give a middle finger now instead? I don't often see the V these days. Which do you think is more offensive?

I prefer to give the shocker tbh.

Neither are offensive to me tbh. The wanker/dickhead sign is quite funny :)

    V
Finger. And it's better if you do it like you are using a fishing reel!!

Ah yeah. I was thinking of including that in the poll options but just opted for the more traditional route :)

I tend to use the middle finger more often as the 2 fingers just looks like you are gestering '2'. I might try and bring the V back as an offense. Starting frommmm nnnnnow!.

Depends really - the V is better if you want to get both holes at the same time, if the auld Catholic guilt sets in, the one finger is better for the conscience.

I always laughed when the Spanish hit the air with their fist and hit their bicep with their other hand. Might try to bring that back also :pac:

I opt more for Cupped Vagina Hand these days.

Can someone enlighten me on what this 'Shocker' is? I'm assuming you don't mean using a tazor on someone nor sticking your thumbs in your ears and waggling your fingers while sticking out your tongue.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

It's what the Dutch play in the world cup.

I always giggle when someone sticks their tongue in the V of their fingers & wiggles their tongue around.

Supposedly to imitate licking someone out.

    V
I prefer a really classic thumbs up.*

*Emperors in ancient Rome use to signify death to a victim on the gladiator field with a thumbs up. Not a thumbs down as is widely believed. So if I ever give you a thumbs up on boards.ie it really means I want to see you slain!

i prefer the middle finger but I think the V looks great in the papers. especially when performed by a celebrity :)

I love the V for old-times' sake, but nobody gets it here.

I have a bit of a weakness for the old bras d'honneur thogh, I have to say.

You hold your ring finger down with your thumb leaving a 2 and 1 layout with your other fingers. Meaning you would like your index and middle finger to "go in the pink" and your baby finger to "tiddle the stink".

    ...or so I believe.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,595 ✭✭✭bonerm

I don't do either but if I had to pick one I'd go for the "V" as the other is a bit too much of an Americanism for my liking. Plus in terms of energy expenditure and dexterity it's actually easier to do.

Does the "wanker" gesture automatically double up for "dickhead"? Obviously I'll defer to your experience on this issue. :pac:

Dickhead is the wanker gesture but performed off your forehead.

Frankly makes you look like a bit of a dickhead, which inevitably leads to a perpetuating exhange of dickhead gestures.

I was going to go for the oul finger but then remembered the best V of all time.

You should probably learn to be a better driver and then you wouldn't get it so much.

That's right! That is the best V ever. The grin and the timing of the presentation make it a top gesture.

    V
The 'wanker' (as in the **** motion with the semi-closed hand) is definitely a classic and the one I tend to use when driving. It has to be accompanied by a silently-mouthed w-a-n-k-a-h for maximum effect.

Both are equally offensive to the lady if the requisite foreplay is omitted .

If you have a problem with someone as a poster above noted just tell them. Far easier to just call someone a wanker.

Something remarkably childlike about hand signs. Makes me think of kids running across the playground and giving the finger when you're 'out of reach'.

Yes it is remarkably childlike but also remarkably satisfying.

If you could see me now my right hand is giving you the v sign & my left hand is giving you the finger. And I'm smiling :D

    * Rolls down window and projects voice*

"Pardon me, kind sir / madam, I noticed while I am driving in the driving lane at the maximum speed while within the confines of the law that you swerved in front of me without taking heed to your indicatormatronagadget to inform me of thus manoevre. I am taking it upon myself to kindly request that such an action has caused me some distress and forced me to apply my brakes in such a manner that my poor canine friend has managed to fall off of his seat.
Would you please consider revising the useage of your indicator and mirrors in due time, the next time you wish to perform such an action. Thank you and good day."
