European Draw

Enough of this 'World Cup' vuvuzela blowing, hyped up nonsense. The draw for the Europa league is on Monday 21st June (streamed live on UEFA website).

Dundalk FC enter at the first qualifying round as a seeded team and could have a good chance of qualifying for the 2nd qualifying round.

Sporting Fingal and Shamrock Rovers enter at the 2nd qualifyind round as unseeded teams and could be drawn against Olympiacos or Besiktas. Here's hoping for a favorable draw for Rovers against one of the weaker sides.

Any teams who make it through the 2nd qualifying round could then be drawn against some heavyweights of European football, such as Juventus, Galatasaray or Liverpool.

    Brint it on...

I guess it was too much to expect that there might be some interest on an Irish soccer forum in some Irish teams playing in Europe. Obviously more important things to discuss like Wayne Rooney's latest musings or 'Becks' latest clobber...:(

Yep you got it in one! I quite like DB07's suit actually - any thoughts?

He certainly brings a little 'je ne sais quoi' to the English bench...

In other news, Bohs enter the champions league 2nd qualifying round as a seeded team which gives them a fairly good chance of advancing.

When is the CL draw? And also, how much of an impact would qualification to the actual stages of Europa League have on Irelands co-efficient?

I believe the CL draw is on Monday also. Not sure about the co-efficient side of things for getting to the group stages. I doubt it's something we'll need to worry about any time soon anyhow, unless there is a major seachange in the way the Irish sporting public treats it's own league...

That can work two ways. Maybe if team did better in Europe, more would go watch them. On the flip-side, they need more people to attend first to raise more money for better players etc. Leaving that out, maybe if they managed to shock a team/get a decent draw, and get in, surely it would have positive ramifications for the co-efficient. Or does that depend on national team too?

Kind of glad we aren't in Europe this term. With our title rivals having to travel and play the extra games we'll be nice and rested.

Hope rovers get ****ing hammered btw

Preferably an easy draw to start off with for Rovers and then humiliate Liverpool with a 5-0 thrashing.:pac:

Wales or NI, get the win then get the euro trip in the next round. Some horrible trips there.

Malta isnt cheap to get to for 3 days, cheaper to stay for a week tbh.

No. The club co-efficient and the national team rankings are separate.

Irish football doesn't work like that because the crowds don't return for non-European games.

Bohemians in the CL draw can get:

HJK Helsinki (FIN), FH Hafnarfjördur (ISL), HB Tórshavn (FRO), The New Saints FC (WAL), Linfield FC (NIR) or AS Jeunesse Esch (LUX).

    First Round Group 4:
Seeded- Dundalk, Kalmar FF, KR Reykjavík, FK Tauras
Unseeded- EB/Streymur, Glentoran FC, JK Trans Narva, Llanelli AFC, CS Grevenmacher

    stolen from foot.ie

Fingal rovers have to wait for round 1 to be complete.

All irish clubs seeded in their draws, np lads :(

Cheers Dreamers. Most sites blocked here in work.
Not a bad draw for Dundalk at all. Hopefully we get Llanelli or Gravenmacher as they both should be winnable and not much travel expenses.

Linfield or TNS would probably be most desired draw for Bohs.

It should have it's own forum, there's too much Rooney/Becks/France stuff going on for stuff like this to get much traffic. There also seems to be enough LOI supporters to make it a viable forum.

    Bohs drawn against TNS(Wales)

Handy in terms of opposition and logistics. I'm sure they would have been thinking the same....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 906 ✭✭✭LiamMc

I think TNS is the one of the better draws.
Lost cost in travel for club and fans.
    1st leg draw in Dublin?
Pat Fenlon is always very vociferous about NOT changing the legs as it shows a sign of submission.
Also Bohs will want the first leg in Dublin for the same reasons TNS may ask to change it. (That could be a disservice to TNS though).

Best possible draw for Bohs in my opinion. Great financially and should beat them. Hopefully Dundalk get Llanelli

I'm presuming the Europa League won't be regionalised. As the UEFA site hasn't set it up that way.
The regions draw hit central and S.E. Europe badly as the competent clubs not each other out and making room for the dross from Northern Europe.

Last year was an example when Vllaznia shat on Sligo Rovers in an unregionalised draw. Sligo Rovers fans still think they were robbed.

Not regionalised but the group draw was done already (EB/Streymur, Glentoran FC, JK Trans Narva, Llanelli AFC, CS Grevenmacher)
The Faroe Islands team aside the rest are easy and cheap enough to get to. Financially the Faroe team would be the worst draw for us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

    Linfield got Rosenberg.

Would say its good/bad but linfield wont give a ****, their players be on holiday when its played.

Thanks, I came across that now on the UEFA.com
I would describe that as regionalised looking at the different groups.
But at the moment it looks like it's only the 1st qRd. Like only the 2nd qRd. in the Champions League.

To be honest, even if a team like Liverpool were (are?) to drop out of contention for regular Champions League participation, they'd lose a shed-load of support here imo.

Do you think all Liverpool supporters are the same, Liverpool have had supporters in Ireland going way back before the success of the 60's, 70's and 80's due to the high influx of Irish people in Liverpool in the preceding decades. The Liverpool docks was built with sand from the River Slaney back many moons ago.

Liverpool and its city has had a strong bond with generations of Irish people so a lot of supporters wouldn't desert the club at all. The Istanbul hangers on yes would jump ship I would say but even if the club was playing in League 1 or 2 you would still see a lot of people going over for games.

Can we get back to discussing the Europa league now?

It's a competition Liverpool supporters will be intimately acquainted with for the foreseeable future anyway.

That was a boss comment there la, we were well acquainted with the competition during the 90's as the UEFA Cup so it doesn't bother me in the slightest. We're in the competitions to win them, once the club the is sold in the next few weeks Liverpool will change drastically all it needs now is to rubberstamped that there is no conflict of interest on the buyers part.
