    Hey guys,

I'm having a little problem at the moment, been working on an s80 for a couple of months here and there when i get the time and in refitting the gearbox I think i forgot to fill up the torque converter before sticking it in. I know i lost a lot of fluid from it when removing a few weeks earlier so its pretty much empty now.

Any of ya got any suggestions on how to get some ATF in there without having to take out the box again? its a pain to get at and i'll probably have to drop the subframe and everything to get the box off again...

    cheers. :)

It should fill from the gearbox.

That is why you dip an auto when the engine is running

yeah I expected as much but I have the box filled a little over the top mark and have ran it for a few warm ups, maybe 15min runs with no luck so far. Still have a box of neutrals at the moment.

    Oh..

Not an expert on slush boxes at all.

Maybe jack the car up and get gravity to help a bit. That or overfill it a little?

As I said, not an expert.. hopefully someone who does know may answer the question

    Cheers man. :)

Im a bit alien to the auto's myself. Was trying to figure out a way of manually pumping it even.

yeah as first guy said running the engine in P should fill the TC just keep an eye on the temp of the box dont let it get too hot...

Have ya had to do it yourself? any idea on how long its supposed to take?
Ive given it a few warm up runs of 15 minute intervals both sitting in park and selecting through the gears. At one stage it did come back to me a little but it just wasnt biting fully.

So far im looking at maybe tilting the car over on its driver side to let gravity help out, maybe some way of pumping it in or worst case scenario, take off the box again, but that'll be a messy job needing the subframe dropped again.,

The pump should take care of supplying the components with oil, not gravity.

With the engine running, hand-brake on and foot applied to the brake, move the gear stick from Park-Neutral-Reverse-Drive holding it about 3 seconds in each and move it back to Park, holding it again in each gear for 3 seconds. If you have a semi-auto box, select each gear (if possible) after drive, holding each gear for 3 seconds, and work your way back to park.

Check auto box level, top up if necessary and repeat process if you have to top it up.

    cheers man,

i did all that the other day in the hope it could get it moving, no luck,

But i did pull the box out this afternoon and found the fluid pump notches were marred where they interlock with the torque converter. it obviously didnt seat right when i installed it the first time, depsite double and triple checking it before bolting it back to the engine, then tore the sh1t out of it when i ran it afterwards. cant believe after all the major work ive done on this engine that i balled it up with this silly oversight.

Ive removed the pump though and am looking into having the damaged piece repaired, Anyone know of a decent gearbox centre to take on such a thing? Im only aware of a couple of them, Bohernabreena gearbox centre, red cow and Mr Gearbox. Anyone know if they'll be able to help me out?

    cheers,
