DVD Drive problems

    Hi there,

I'm having problems with my DVD burner.

    I have a Dell Inspiron 1300. It's about 3 years old.

I'm trying to burn a Wedding I filmed onto a DVD, but the software I'm using (Sony Picture Motion Browser) says it "Cannot Find a Drive".

When I check in My Computer, before I insert a DVD, the DVD Drive says DVD-RW Drive ( E: ) but then when I insert the DVD (A Sony DVD-R. I've also tried a Phillips DVD-RW) the DVD Drive changes to CD Drive ( E: ). I presume this has something to do with the fact that I can't burn my DVD, but have no idea what to do...

I burned something else very recently using a different program and it burned fine, however I've already done loads of editing on the Sony program on this piece of video so would obviously rather use the Sony version if possible. Obviously if needs be, I'll have to do all the editing again in the other program.

Is it just that my DVD burner is getting too old or is there anything else I can do to fix the problem?

    Cheers for any help!

PS, I'm using Windows XP if that makes any difference...

Did you try uninstalling and re-installing the drive? Also, update the drivers. See if that helps.

Yes I uninstalled the driver, then restarted my laptop and the driver reinstalled itself. Is there another way to do it?

I tried to update the drivers and Windows said that the wizard "could not find a better match for my hardware than the software I have installed".

I'm lost here. The problem only seems to arise when I insert the blank DVD. It comes up as a DVD-RW drive before I do that, but a CD Drive after??!

I've also played a DVD on it and it plays fine. It's just burning that seems to be the problem??
