Does anybody know when the offers for 2nd year Psychology are given to Arts students who've done Psych? I'm hearing so many conflicting dates so does anyone have any concrete info on the time frame? Shouldn't be getting my hopes up about getting an offer, but would like to know when they're coming out all the same :)

After the repeats in August :) Then there'll be a second round since not everyone in the top 30 will want a place in 2nd year psychology.

About then! It's because some people will have a top 30 grade in psychology but need to repeat another exam for example.

From what I've seen if you've gotten mostly Bs you should be in the top 30 :) Don't forget there's the 50 MH106 and psych through science that don't count, plus lots of people who don't want to do psychology.

They changed that this year. You have to have passed every single one of your exams, psychology and your other two arts subjects, without repeats, to get into second year Psychology through MH101.

Oh really? Hmm... but what about if MH106 students need to repeat? I don't actually know if they give the places of people who drop out of/fail denominated psych to arts students.

I wonder if they'll go ahead & offer the 30 places soon enough after the results next week. Because of the subject pass requirement changes this year it seems that there's no reason for them to wait much longer after that, apart from appeals maybe... with any luck! :)

And if they're planning on offering the places of those who've dropped out/ failed that would happen nearer september?

MH106 students have their place regardless of repeats, so the new rule only applies to MH101 students.

Not if they fail their repeats though... Well, in my year (2007/08) it was after the repeats, but maybe not now. You can always email the first year supervisor (forget the official title lol) and ask them :)

It'll still be after the repeats cause there is bound to be some people who failed or weren't able to attend exams due to illness/ entenuating circumstances.

Have no clue if they offer MH106 drop outs places to MH101 students though.

Dont mean to bring an old thread up, but when did the Arts people that got into 2nd year psychology get their offer?

Got dead on 60 so I'm still not 100% whether that's good enough.

ah I remember the feeling well, I got exactly 60% too. It was early September when I found out, I'm sure with timeline I'll be able to find the exact day..I'll get back to you if I do!

Sorry for bringing up this old thread again, but have you heard from psychology yet?

I'm going insane not knowing :|

You should know a day or two after the repeat results are out, which is the 5th of September or something like that. I seem to recall finding out on the Friday after they were out

Thanks! :) Can't stop worrying about it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 116 ✭✭Xqzciara

Aw, try not to worry too much, I know its nerve wrecking though I was in the same boat a few years ago. What results did you get in your exams?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 RiverSong

My average was 63% But I've heard some years' cut off points were 65% :S

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 116 ✭✭Xqzciara

Well I got 60% when I did it and that was only 2 years ago, so Id say you're fairly okay. And there's second round too for those who were offered it and dont want it. Either way, I think you should go watch some nice tv, have some chocolate, try take your mind off it for a week or two :)

Once I get outta work, I plan to make slutty brownies (brownie mix, oreos in the middle, cookie mix on the top). Might distract me for a wee while :)

How do they let you know by the way?

Oh and someone told me you have had to officially register to be considered is that true? only kind of panicking now haha...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 RiverSong

Whatcha mean officially register? :/ In the first year handbook, it says they post you a letter if you get in, but don't send you anything if you don't!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,036 ✭✭✭Sanity_Saviour

    I dunno that's what I was wondering!

Found this on the college site.

    "Automatic transfers

Students who fulfil the requirements to transfer to the following degree programmes are automatically provided with the option of transferring via the University’s student record system, when they review their registration details, which is made available to all continuing students in early September.

    • Psychology (MH106). Eligible students who qualify from MH101 can register for MH106.
    • BBS/BBA Business and Management (MH404). Eligible students who qualify from MH101.
    • BCL - Law and Arts (MH115)
BBL - Law and Business (MH406). Note: Only students who take Business and Law as two of their First Year subjects may transfer to MH406.
Note: Eligibility for these degree programmes is determined by the results of the Summer Examinations.
    "

Looks like they just automatically give the top 30 the offer, we don't need to apply or anything.
